Jack Wood's rare 1966 garage track gets long-awaited reissue from Third Man Records

In case you haven’t noticed by now, Jack White and his pals at Third Man Records are on some sort of mission from God (Blues Brothers Style), which seems to consist of a grand scheme to unearth every long-forgotten relic from the depths of American musical history and possibly coax pop into some unending loop of eating itself.

The latest installment of this (probably) genius plan is the reissue of Jack Wood’s garage soul single “Born To Wander,” which was originally cut to vinyl in May 1966 for the princely sum of $250. Unfortunately, the record gained no commercial traction, and Wood was cast into a long period of relative anonymity, despite the limited run of 100 singles becoming a highly sought-after collector’s item.

But kids, there’s a motivational poster somewhere bearing Wood’s face with the tagline “Never Give Up” underneath, because in late 2015, Bacardi picked up his tune in a rather popular advertisement and finally, almost 50 years later, the song is a hit.

You can now buy into this mythology with the Third Man Records reissue of the single, which saw a limited release for Record Store Black Friday and will be in the store soon. Delve into the label’s website to find out all about the tune (complete with 90s-era internet design) here.
