Japanese improviser Tatsuya Nakatani confirms Confirmation LP for assured released on TAIGA

Harken back to the days when industry execs waxed melodramatic about the imminent end of music, and we can recall a missed opportunity on the part of those who responded initially in kind with a smirk and a raised eyebrow. Realists could’ve shirked the charts and graphs and simply whispered the name “Tatsuya Nakatani,” and those in suits across the negotiating table would’ve breathed a sigh of relief knowing that the Osaka-bred percussionist is capable of single-handedly buoying the market until full-scale revival and until someone less “free” can return the Top 40 to its generally banal existence. Radio stations return to their normal rotations, and drivers can go back to assuming actual engine trouble from the unexpected clanking.

Non-surprise! Confirmation is another release from the absurdly prolific composer, and it’s set for release December 7 via Minneapolis’s TAIGA Records. The album was recorded live in Easton, PA at the beginning of the year, and lest you consider that an unusual recording location for a Japanese improviser, it’s worth pointing out that Nakatani has a habit of towing his drums and other objects across large bodies of water. Confirmation is also a solo release, despite his not-infrequent habit of collaboration.

Pre-orders for the aesthetically pretty LP (mastered by James Plotkin, by the way) are available here. And here’s a glimpse into Nakatani’s mannerisms:
