Jon Brion is an acclaimed composer. He is well-known for his scores in films like Magnolia and I ♥ Huckabees. Brion is also a producer of note, lending his talents — and a touch of class — to efforts by Kanye West, Fiona Apple, and of Montreal, among others.
Bethany Cosentino is the songwriter behind Best Coast and a former member of Pocahaunted. Many of her songs are about boys or weed or hamburgers. She likes Nathan Williams and her cat. Some would call her music chillwave.
What would happen if these two seemingly opposing forces were to meet? UH OH! Queue “Walking on Sunshine.”
As reported by We All Want Someone To Shout For (whose story was picked up by Pitchfork whose story was picked up by us), Best Coast have posted on their Facebook page that Jon Brion will be producing their forthcoming full-length. Those sessions should begin within a few weeks in LA, where both Brion and Best Coast are based out of. I give it a week before Cosentino smooshes a pie in Brion’s face, a move Brion responds to with only an exasperated stare at an invisible audience.
