Justice are planning to take over various parts of the world in 2012. The electro-house duo will pack up their French moustaches (that’s “moustache en guidon de vélo” to you simple Americans), some laptops, maybe a turntable here or there, and a whole bunch of strobes beginning January 1, 2012. In support of their recently released ironic-or-not-ironic cheesy techno album Audio, Video, Disco (TMT Review). Justice will hit Australia, Japan, France, England, Scotland, and the US. Oh, and to finish it off they’ll play some land called Vancouver for the hell of it.

If you plan on not being hungover and want to win tickets to their January 1 show in Sydney, you can go ahead and start teaching yourself how to play their songs on your little guitar, recorder, clarinet, what have you, because you’ll need to prove to yourself to these two Frenchmen. Check out the video below for more details on how to be as cool as they are.

As far as fresh-faced indie rock bands go, Cloud Nothings are doing pretty well for themselves. Debut full-length released earlier this year? Yep! Sophomore full-length coming out in January? You already know about that! Super extensive winter tour that eventually becomes a spring tour? Well, that would be the next move. But Cloud Nothings, how will you go on tour without… guitars?

Cloud Nothings won’t, and that is precisely why they are bringing guitars. Really, I don’t know why they wouldn’t. That would be a gaffe worthy of the gaffe hall of fame, which isn’t a thing, but would be if someone made such a major gaffe. The Cleveland-based group will be hitting a ridiculous number of cities around the United States, guitars in tow. Also in tow will be Mr. Dream, who are not Mike Tyson, and A Classic Education, who are also not Mike Tyson.

Okkervil River’s Golden Opportunities 2 comes with the opportunity for free music

For those of us in the 99%, here’s something to be thankful for: Okkervil River has just released the follow-up to the 2007 mixtape, Golden Opportunities, for — you guessed it — FREE. And let’s face it, when’s the last time you got something legal and free? Just as the previous mixtape did, this one finds the band covering some songs by a bunch of people you can pretend to have heard of if you want to impress some hardcore music heads: Ted Lucas, Jim Sullivan, David McComb, and Bill Fay. Once you’ve committed those names to memory, go ahead and research them so you can convincingly tell your hipper-than-thou friends the twisted musicians’ tales.

Golden Opportunities 2 was recorded live to two-track tape in a day while on break from touring for their not-free album I Am Very Far (TMT Review) on Jagjaguwar. Find both Mp3 and lossless versions of the album at Okkervil River’s site.

Golden Opportunities 2:

01. It Is So Nice to Get Stoned (Ted Lucas)
02. U.F.O. (Jim Sullivan)
03. One Soul Less on Your Fiery List (David McComb)
04. Plan D (Bill Fay)
05. Dry Bones (Traditional)

Matthew Shipp and Barbara Januszkiewicz start Kickstarter for avant-garde film project

Free jazz pianist, composer, and upstanding citizen Matthew Shipp has recently announced an exciting collaboration with multimedia artist and avant-garde filmmaker Barbara Januszkiewicz. Having already wowed us this year with his monumental double-disc release, The Art of the Improviser (TMT Review), Shipp has decided to further his ever-evolving craft with a new and challenging endeavor in avant-garde filmmaking and composition.

A fitting partnership between two boundary-breaking risk-takers, the film, titled The Composer, is advertised by the duet as a “unique fusion of artistic vision” and that it “can be described as witnessing creative vision, an inspirational moment with the piano. And not any piano but a Fazioli.” The film is predicted to be approximately 45 minutes in length and feature the relationship between Shipp and his instrument, the piano.

So when will you see/hear/feel/love/stick your dick in this thing? Well, that’s up to you. The artists have set up a Kickstarter page to acquire the necessary funding for the project. Pledges will fund travel expenses, equipment, post production, music, editing assistance, sound mixing, graphic design, fees for showcases work, etc. For those of you unfamiliar with Kickstarter, the web site allows artists to set up fundraisers for creative projects. The catch is, to avoid risks for both artists and benefactors, the system is all or nothing. The financial goal is met by the deadline, or no one is charged, and the project dies. It DIES. So pitch in.
