Punk was cool, but post-punk is cooler. CDs are sweet, but vinyl is sweeter. In 2001, Kill Rock Stars released a two-disc CD collection of the works of Swiss post-punk women rockers Kleenex/LiLiPUT (they began as Kleenex and then, well… copyright infringement is pretty punk). Before KRS took the helm 18 years after the band’s break-up, the complete recordings had been out of print since 1993.
But CD availability isn’t enough. You can’t get into the feel of listening to 1982 if you’re listening to “Beri-Beri” on your laptop with iced coffee and a vegan scone, or switching songs in your CD changer as you wait for red lights. That’s why Kill Rock Stars is in the midst of a project to reissue Kleenex/LiLiPUT’s collected works in a 4LP box set.
The box set does not yet have an official release date, but KRS anticipates one sometime around late October to early November of this year — if they can get the necessary funding. However sure the project may seem, Kill Rock Stars still need help to pull it off. Here’s the kicker: unless $20,000 is pledged by May 20, 1:30 PM EDT, there will be no vinyl for anyone. Assuming it happens, the box set will contain a 12-page 11.5x11.5-inch full-color booklet full of photos, fliers, and “all sorts of cool stuff,” but if you pledge money to the project (starting with just a dollar), you can get even more, from mp3s to posters to the entire KRS catalog!
