Kylesa announce October tour...... you knuckleheads http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/default/files/1309/news-13-09-kylesa.jpg

Listen up, knuckleheads.

Kylesa are one of Savannah, Georgia’s top tier metal bands. BE ADVISED: suggesting that they are in a lower tier within the Savannah, Georgia metal scene will result in vast disagreements from the city’s metal elders. If you’re going to express such an opinion, I wouldn’t set foot in Savannah. Not unless you really want to see some folks not taking kindly, that is.

Heck, if you’re gonna say things like that, I’d lay low all through October. That’s when Kylesa are going on tour. They’re touring in support of their newest release on Season of Mist, Ultraviolet. If you’ve been mouthing off about Kylesa, I’d check the dates below. Those are the cities where you should tread lightly, my friend. Behave with arrogance and watch yourself get pounded by a band with two drummers. Or, if you happen to be in Norman, Oklahoma on the fifth of October, watch yourself get pounded by Kylesa, Saint Vitus, and Pallbearer. Buddy, you won’t be talking bad about sludge metal after that.

Kylesa dates:

10.01.13 - Athens, GA - 40 Watt Club
10.02.13 - Birmingham, AL - Bottletree

Domino Recording Company runs for charities, asks for donations, persuades you with potential goodies

Absent a staff list on their website with adjacent professional head-shots, we can only surmise the collective physical appearance of the people behind Domino, one of independent music’s largest and most successful labels, with headquarters in London but an office in Brooklyn, alongside French and German divisions. I’m personally imagining an unrivaled convergence of “beautifulness,” exemplified by carefully sculpted beards, stupendous fashion choices, and a general appreciation for music that only adds to the attraction. What happens, though, if you replace the raw denim with track shorts, in a potentially unflattering display of excessive leg hair? Well, what you have is a necessary sacrifice, for not just one but two good causes!

On October 6, 15 members of “Team Domino” will be running the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon in London in order to raise funds for two UK-based charities: Shelter from the Storm, London’s only free homeless shelter, which operates year-round without the benefit of government funding; and MIND, a charity dedicated to the support of people with mental health issues. As a supplement, Domino is also asking people to support the charities by making a donation through this website (oh, and look, a photo of some of the Domino folk!). At the time of writing, they’re about halfway toward reaching their goal of raising 10,000 quid.

Moreover, if altruism stops short of being a sufficient motivator, each donator will be entered to win a Domino “swag bag,” so long as you leave a message saying “GO TEAM DOMINO” in the designated message box. There are five such “swag bags” ready for distribution, and from the looks of the possible contents, well… I’m guessing the bag would have to be rather large.

Blanche Blanche Blanche announce schizophrenic new LP Breaking Mirrors, their first to be recorded in a studio!

Try as you might to forget the wonderful shit show that was the lead-in to the slightly less crazy, though still unforgettably insane Mitt-Romney-becoming-the-Republican-nominee-for-president, a rare entertaining piece from that time period actually lives on through the Internet. Another might well do the job, but here’s the equivalent of my reaction upon listening to the track “I Just Wanna Know” from Blanche Blanche Blanche’s new LP Breaking Mirrors, due out November 5 on Wharf Cat Records.

Verbally, let me describe it as an initial impression of gimmicky lo-fi-ness, midway replaced by a grinning appreciation of hidden complexity — a casual and complete reversal of opinion in less than two minutes. It’s worth quoting the press release this time: “Their songs are often difficult to play but easy to hear,” and even better, the feeling doesn’t diminish with repeated listens. I’m up to #26, the gradual smiling continues, and my double life as a human puppet has just become a little less painful. Say goodbye, mouth strings!

A bit of background about the band and the aforementioned debut LP: since 2010, Blanche Blanche Blanche have recorded seven full-length albums on multitrack cassette. Breaking Mirrors marks the first that was recorded in a professional studio, and the first for which they recruited extra musicians to play drums, bass, and guitar (Jo Miller-Gamble, Adam Steck, Quentin Moore, and Colin White, respectively).

If nothing else, let’s thank the presumed budget increase for the related increase in exposure. Looking forward to this one; preorder it here.

Breaking Mirrors tracklisting:

03. Zeroing In
04. That’s the Ad

Gobby and James K form SETH, release Chick on the Moon EP October 8, because at the end of the day synergy is what they bring to the table

Teamwork, friendship, collaboration. About a year ago I made three large posters with pictures of human triumph in the background and these three words boldly printed in the foreground. I hung them on the ceiling over my bed. It helps me authentically re-evaluate my values every morning, so I know exactly what I can bring to the table that day. When I heard about the new musical project SETH, I felt the warm glow of my values being confirmed out in the great big world. I want to share that warm glow with you, readers.

SETH is the collaborative project of NYC-based producer Gobby and vocalist James K. It’s a solution-based collaboration built upon mutual respect, good optics, and leverage. Gobby will leverage his success on musical releases like Lantern (TMT Review) and Fashion Lady (TMT Review) with vocalist James K in order to create a musical experience that’s been described as a “mutant from the valley between Portishead and IDM.” The duo will release Chick on the Moon on October 8 via UNO NYC. The EP’s first single, “Don’t Open Your Make,” has a video (see below) whose optics are, as you might expect, quite good. You can also download the track over at the UNO NYC SoundCloud. What’s that smell, you ask? That’s the smell of teamwork, friendship, and collaboration, and goddamn if it isn’t mouth watering.

Chick on the Moon tracklisting:

01. Widy Track (vinyl only)
02. Don’t Open Your Make
03. Cat in the Limo
04. Crow Won’t Go (vinyl only)

Jon Hopkins announces world tour, boasts that he has more mercury than any man, living or dead

From Coldplay to Cold Beats: The Jon Hopkins Story. Oh, don’t mind me, just engaging in my favorite activity: dreaming up fake biography titles for contemporary musicians. Currently, I’m focusing on producer Jon Hopkins, who, as you may have surmised, has worked as a producer for Coldplay and makes frosty electronic compositions in his own work. Now, I only dream up false biography titles, but let’s imagine what would be between those non-existent covers. Of course, it would cover Hopkins’s early years. The beginnings of his music career. His relationship with mentor Brian Eno. His rise to prominence as a solo artist. Somewhere in there, you’d have to mention his 2013 world tour. You’d have to mention it, because it is happening later this year. Look at those tour dates below if you don’t believe it is happening. If you know anything about biographies, you know they cover things that have happened.

Hopkins’s most recent album on Domino, Immunity, was recently nominated for Britain’s 2013 Mercury Prize. The prize honors the musical artist who: a) released a record within the past year, and b) possessed the most mercury. Last year, Alt-J won, because they released An Awesome Wave that year and because they had the most mercury.
