Laura Jean collaborates with PJ Harvey producer John Parish on new self-titled album; hear "First Love Song"

I have gone through plenty of old journals and ripped out the embarrassingly bad poetry and lyrics I tried to write when I was, like, 15 years old. My first love song/poem/whatever-it-doesn’t-really-matter-because-I-crumpled-it-up-and-burned-it involved a lot of angry scribbling at my first boyfriend for giving me mono and also for dumping me for a high-school freshman. It was not poetic. The phrase “You threw my heart in the garbage can” may or may not have been used. I was a teenager! I wasn’t talented! I have since given up on any kind of career in songwriting! Please try not to judge me too hard!

Thankfully, “First Love Song,” the first single from Melbourne, Australia artist Laura Jean’s upcoming self-titled album on Chapter Music, is approximately 300,000 times more elegiac and eloquent than any of my teenage endeavors. Laura Jean, which is produced by frequent PJ Harvey collaborator John Parish, is set to come out on August 22 and features Jenny Hval on backing vocals. I can guarantee that there will be no discussion of garbage cans on the album — hooray! Please try to erase most of this irrelevant information about my high-school love life from your brains and listen to “First Love Song” instead:
