LCD Soundsystem confirms May release for new album ლ(`・◡・´ლ)

Earlier this week, LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy tweeted about how a new album is now complete and will be sent to the one, the only, the often very sexy Mr. Bob Weston (Shellac, Vocano Suns) for mastering. Here’s the exact quote: “mixing last song right now to send to the amazing bob weston to master. meaning, record DONE. i hope people like it.”

So when’s it coming out? A bunch of webzines and blogs have speculated March, with a few outlets reporting April, BUT THEY HAVE SPECULATED INCORRECTLY, MY FRIENDS. According to the one, the only, the often very sexy MOG, Murphy has confirmed a May release for the album.

So, what does all of this mean? Well, isn’t it obvious? James Murphy needs to be more clear about his release dates or he’ll lose his fanbase entirely. Step up your game, S’Murphy: a release date needs to be set before you master an album. Oh, and you should probably title the album, too. FYI.

k-os tours with Drake; the worlds of Drake and Broken Social Scene inch ever-closer

For my next trick, I will connect the seemingly disparate worlds of Canadian indie rock heroes Broken Social Scene and (also Canadian) hip-hop hitmaker Drake in a mere two moves.

1. Broken Social Scene’s self-titled album (TMT Review) contained the track “Windsurfing Nation” featuring a guest verse from rap veteran k-os.

2. k-os will be going on tour this April with hitmaker/Degrassi superstar Drake.

And there you are! Of course, there’s a lot more worth knowing about k-os than his association with Broken Social Scene. For one, the man’s released four full-length albums, the latest of which, Yes!, saw release this past Tuesday, which was preceded with an appearance the day before on BET co-hosting a “Black History Month” episode of The Deal. Of course, all of this leads up to his role opening for Drake on his “Away From Home Tour,” which hits up a number of college campuses in hopes of promoting eco-friendly technology. Drake and k-os: a couple of guys who care! Now, if only they could get through to that dastardly Broken Social Scene crew. Bunch of hearts of stone over there.

k-os solo dates:

03.02.10 - New York, NY - Le Poisson Rouge
03.04.10 - Los Angeles, CA - The Roxy

Dates with Drake:

04.06.10 - Charleston, IL - Eastern Illinois University
04.07.10 - State College, PA - Penn State University
04.11.10 - Lock Haven, PA - Private Location
04.14.10 - East Lansing, MI - Michigan State
04.15.10 - Rochester Hills, MI - Oakland University

This year, the Primavera Sound festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary on May 27-29 at the Parc Del Fòrum in Barcelona. I don’t know about the rest of you, but when I celebrated my 10th birthday, I certainly didn’t have a party as cool as the one that they’re throwing. EMI appeals Men At Work plagiarism ruling

EMI Music has decided to appeal against a ruling that Men At Work plagiarized a Girl Guide flute refrain. On February 4, an Australian court agreed that the band had stolen a flute riff first written 70 years ago. The controversy centers around Men At Work’s 1983 hit “Down Under,” which features the suspect woodwind instrument.

EMI argues that any similarities between Men At Work’s flute and Marion Sinclair’s (who penned the riff in 1934) would only be noted (geddit?) by a “highly educated musical ear.” In addition, the label also says the real copyright holders are the Girl Guides Association of Victoria state, not Larrikin who initially brought the case. This is because they sponsored the “Girl Guides song competition for which the song was written.”

Of course this merely confirms what most TMT readers have known all along: major labels have been screwing us since time immemorial. They’d even go so low as to steal from innocent girl guides!

Neon Indian get vertical, join up with Mountain Dew

Mountain Dew has always been one to keep up with the cool, hip activities of young teenagers across America. In 1995, they sponsored the X-Games. In 2009, they created the World Of Warcraft Mountain Due Gamefuel to keep the nerds on top of their game. Now, in 2010 they have created an internet record label to release today’s “dewiest” jams. Mountain Dew’s label, Green Label Sound, has already released exclusive free MP3s by Matt and Kim, Chromeo, and The Cool Kids. Next up on their list of things to “dew” is release a brand new, exclusive track by “chillwave” act Neon Indian. This will be the first new Neon Indian song of the year, so the question is: will Mountain Dew make Neon Indian the band of 2010, or does this mean Neon Indian will become the band that has that song in that Mountain Dew commercial? Only time will tell.

While we wait for the new Neon Indian jam next month, you can check out everything Green Label Sound has to offer by visiting their website… if you’re into that high fructose bullshit.
