Liturgy prep new LP, US tour; some dude in corpse paint punches a hole in his apartment wall

Somewhere, a black metal purist in Wyoming feels a rage bubbling up in his gut. He’s not sure why. He hasn’t felt this way for years. Last time he felt such a pure rage, it was 2011. New York black metal band (or, as he puts it, “black metal” band) had just put out their second album Aesthetica. The essays, the lack of corpse paint, the jeans, the rejection of traditional black metal values, it all filled this unnamed metal warrior with ire. But Liturgy’s been fairly quiet since and the metal traditionalist has felt safe. Oops, safety’s over, Liturgy’s putting out their third album The Ark Work through Thrill Jockey on March 24.

Those metal purists might be onto something with the “Liturgy isn’t black metal” stuff, though. The Ark Work’s first single “Quetzalcoatl” can be heard below in all its not-especially-black-metal glory. “Eat it, nerds,” said Liturgy leader Hunter Hunt-Hendrix (probably) while blowing a kiss (probably):

Metal purists can rest easy knowing that at least Liturgy aren’t going on tour. PSYCH. Liturgy are going on tour! It’s a bad day for you purists. Beginning in April, the group will play a couple of weeks of dates, then take a bit of a break for a few more dates in June. What will they be doing in the downtime? Kissing your sister.
