After honing their artsy-twee craft (I’m told that this mostly involves working on your song titles) in private for a year or two and releasing their critically-something-or-other new album Romance Is Boring (TMT Review) this past winter, you’d think that the boys and girls of Los Campesinos! would just relax, take it easy, and let the cash roll in.

But when you’ve got an exclamation point in your band name, you just can’t relax, man. So, what do you do with that excess energy and down time? Learn a second language? Start brewing your own beer at home? Well, how about “re-work” some of those album tracks for a four-track EP called All’s Well that Ends and release it on all digital service providers via Arts & Crafts?

Hey, that sounds perfect! Then you could probably just tour on the thing and you’ll never have to stop being in an awesome band and go back to your shitty former gig cleaning the toilets at the trailer park community pool. Awesome.

All’s Well That Ends (out now):

01. Romance Is Boring (Princess Version)
02. Letters From Me To Charlotte (RSVP)
03. Straight In At 101/It’s Never Enough
04. (All’s Well That Ends) In Medias Res

Newbunny, Nobunny! New Nobunny LP First Blood out in September!

You know how it’s cool when Deadmau5 wears an oversized mouse head when he plays shows? Here’s some news: it’s not so cool, and Nobunny do it better anyway. Lead singer Justin Champlin/Nobunny wears a furry rabbit mask that’s somehow like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre after a visit to the petting zoo by the end of the show — and he gives the rest of the band bunny ears. (If you haven’t had the pleasure, check out their upcoming European tour.) The best news is the potential reason for the tour: Nobunny have announced details on a new album, their first as recent signees to Goner Records.

Nobunny are known for being disgusting, simple rock ‘n’ rollers — scuzzy is the best word, if not a little overused for these guys (the cover to the “Give It to Me” single says it all). First Blood, the first full-length since 2008’s Love Visions, is out September 21 and will probably be even more entertaining than Rambo. Check out the tourdates and stop showering now in preparation!

Aloe Blacc is gonna have some Good Things for America on September 28

Early autumn is traditionally a low point for America’s groove reserves. As summer cools into fall, many Americans begin to lose their swagger in a search for ever-tackier thrift store sweaters and smart pea coats from Express. It’s a pivotal time for the U.S.A. to get up with the gettin’ down, lest a poor groove harvest lead to a very square winter. Luckily, Stones Throw’s soul superhero Aloe Blacc is gonna bring his Justin-Timberlake-meets-Matthew-Herbert brand of R&B to the ears of a stultified nation this fall with his new LP Good Times. But don’t expect September 28 to be full of only bell-bottom jeans and pictures of the sun wearing sunglasses. According to the press release, Aloe Blacc is gonna get all political and shit on this record, so keep your ears open for some good old governmental dissension and disillusionment disguised as smooth neo-soul grooves. The lead-off track, “I Need a Dollar,” is streaming over at the Chocolate Grinder. You have been warned!

Good Times tracklisting:

01. I Need a Dollar
02. Green Lights
03. Hey Brother
04. Miss Fortune
05. Life So Hard
06. Take Me Back
07. Femme Fatale
08. Loving You Is Killing Me
09. Good Things
10. You Make Me Smile
11. If I
12. Mama Hold My Hand
13. Politician (Reprise)

Sufjan Stevens reveals new album The Age of Adz, is still a pretty boy

Remember when Sufjan Stevens announced the All Delighted People EP? Of course you do: IT WAS JUST LAST WEEK. But now pretty-boy Sufjan is back in the news again with the announcement of a new full-length album, The Age of Adz, set to be released to the uglier-than-him masses on October 12 via Asthmatic Kitty. But how does it sound? According to Asthmatic Kitty:

We can say it shows an extensive use of electronics (banjos and acoustic guitars give way to drum machines and analog synthesizers), and an obsession with cosmic fantasies (space, heaven, aliens, love), to create an explicit pop-song extravaganza, augmented by heavy orchestration, and maybe even a few danceable moments. Enjoy Your Rabbit meets the BQE. But with songs. Verse, chorus, bridge, backbeat. Gated reverb. Space echo. Get your boogey on.

Sounds like a Wolf Eyes ripoff to me.

The Age of Adz tracklisting:

01. Futile Devices
02. Too Much
03. Age of Adz
04. I Walked
05. Now That I’m Older
06. Get Real Get Right
07. Bad Communication
08. Vesuvius
09. All for Myself
10. I Want To Be Well
11. Impossible Soul

RIP: George David Weiss, songwriter who wrote “What a Wonderful World” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love”

From the BBC:

US songwriter George David Weiss, who helped write chart-topping tracks such as Can’t Help Falling In Love and What a Wonderful World, has died aged 89.

The musician died of natural causes at his home in Oldwick in New Jersey, his wife Claire said.

Weiss also co-wrote songs which were recorded by Frank Sinatra, Perry Como and Elvis Presley.

Women announce fall tour in support of Public Strain, well drinks $2, all domestics $3

To promote their upcoming fall US tour, I propose that Women introduce a “ladies” night that would take place before each show. You know, something like “LADIES IN FREE BEFORE 11, FIRST 50 THROUGH THE DOOR GET A FREE SHOT, ALL WELL DRINKS ONLY $2, ALL DOMESTICS $3! SORRY, GENTS, BUT YOU’LL HAVE TO START CROSS-DRESSING IF YOU WANT TO GET ALL THOSE SWEET DEALS, TOO!” Wouldn’t that be uproarious!? Anyway, Women will be touring in support of their forthcoming album, Public Strain, due September 28 via Jagjaguwar and following up 2008’s self-titled “joint” (TMT Review).
