Love letter from Christopher Owens, re: Broken Dreams Club out soon from Girls on True Panther Sounds

You can’t start an article about Girls, the disingenuously-named 2000s take on The Beach Boys, without prefacing it with all the things that can be said about Christopher Owens, whose own crazy past makes a pretty good match for Brian Wilson’s mental health deficiencies (but you’ve heard all that before). Most recently, we reported in October that Girls are coming out with a new EP to follow their overwhelmingly successful debut, Album (TMT Review). Just as it was then, Broken Dreams Club is still slated to come out November 22 on True Panther, but Owens has now issued a personal letter to fans explaining the origins of the album.

A JPEG of the letter is up on True Panther’s website (here), in case you need some bedtime reading to tide you over until next Tuesday. If you don’t have the trained eye of a weathered elementary school teacher, the gist of it — past the scrawled platitudes and scratched-out lines — is that Christopher Owens and Girls love their fans, and that Broken Dreams Club is for the fans who got them where they are now. The EP is a “record of intent, […] a snapshot of the horizon” — and it’s all for us! Now doesn’t that melt your broken heart a little bit?
