My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James — now going by his top secret alter ego Yim Yames — will be a busy man this summer. It’s work, work, work for our alt-country friend, nary a moment for Slip’n’Slides, ice cream trucks, or buying corn from dudes on the side of the road. See, Yames is performing on the Appalachian Voices tour with Kentucky singer-songwriters Ben Sollee and Daniel Martin Moore, whose album Dear Companion, which Yames produced, was released earlier this year. The album benefits Appalachian Voices, a group dedicated to stop the environmentally unfriendly practice of mountaintop removal coal mining. Our three Kentuckians will be making their way through the South, to Brooklyn, and to the Newport Folk Festival, with a portion of the proceeds going to Appalachian Voices.
Afterward, James/Yames will be performing with My Morning Jacket at the Mile High Festival in Colorado PLUS SOME DATES WITH TOM FRICKIN’ PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS. In July, he’s also doing a solo concert alongside the Blind Boys of Alabama and Yo La Tengo at Lincoln Center in New York. And he recently performed on Letterman with John Prine in celebration of the Broken Hearts and Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine, a tribute featuring My Morning Jacket, Bon Iver, Conor Oberst and many more.
