Nas working with Odd Future's Frank Ocean on new album in an early bid to be the Wayne Coyne of rap

Nas is a man with vision, a rapper who’s always evolving, taking cues from the underground, and — as One Thirty BPM put it — “looking toward the future.” THE ODD FUTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s right, Nas is collaborating with Frank Ocean of the most controversial, most over-the-top, most-Twittered-about rap group in America today, Odd Future. Details are scant, but Nas has been working on tracks for his as-yet-unnamed, currently release date-less 10th studio album, and one (or several, who knows?) will include the smooth soulfulness of Mr. Ocean.

Both Nas and Ocean are currently on the road. Ocean just wrapped his first-ever tour appearances with Tyler, The Creator and his Odd Future hooligans. Nas is on tour with Damian Marley throughout the summer. As for the reasoning behind the collab, Nas tells Billboard, “I just love what’s happening [in rap]. It threatens my position or makes me question what I’m going to do next. What impact do I want to have being in the business this long? It’s a challenge…scary, even.”
