Negativland wonder why people believe in God on new album It's All in Your Head

Negativland are pretty good at pushing people’s buttons — perhaps most famously, they pissed off Bono and Island Records with their U2 EP back in 1991, parodying “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.”

But now, the group has truly outdone itself, and we’ll see who gets up in arms about their newest project: their next album, titled It’s All in Your Head, explores the reasons why people believe in God, using found music, dialogue, and sound samples. Negativland will explore everything from Christianity, Islam, and Judaism to “neuroscience, suicide bombers, 9/11, colas, war, shaved chimps, and the all-important war played by the human brain in our beliefs.” The album contains new material, although Negativland previously presented the 2006 album It’s All In Your Head FM v1.0 which culled from 2005 live shows.

The double CD will come inside an “actual Holy Bible,” or a Qur’an (this version is already sold out), although the band says reading the scripture is optional. The material will be presented as a live radio project using the band’s favored sound collage format.

It’s All In Your Head is out on Negativland’s own label, Seeland Records, on October 28 and can be pre-ordered here. Check the album trailer and tracklist below.
