Neon Indian get vertical, join up with Mountain Dew

Mountain Dew has always been one to keep up with the cool, hip activities of young teenagers across America. In 1995, they sponsored the X-Games. In 2009, they created the World Of Warcraft Mountain Due Gamefuel to keep the nerds on top of their game. Now, in 2010 they have created an internet record label to release today’s “dewiest” jams. Mountain Dew’s label, Green Label Sound, has already released exclusive free MP3s by Matt and Kim, Chromeo, and The Cool Kids. Next up on their list of things to “dew” is release a brand new, exclusive track by “chillwave” act Neon Indian. This will be the first new Neon Indian song of the year, so the question is: will Mountain Dew make Neon Indian the band of 2010, or does this mean Neon Indian will become the band that has that song in that Mountain Dew commercial? Only time will tell.

While we wait for the new Neon Indian jam next month, you can check out everything Green Label Sound has to offer by visiting their website… if you’re into that high fructose bullshit.

Thom Yorke debuts three new songs at Green Party gig, AND WE’VE GOT THE VIDS, ETC

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke played a 19-track set at a recent benefit solo show for the Green Party’s Tony Juniper. Mostly comprised of Radiohead songs and tracks from The Eraser, Thom also treated the audience to rarer tracks like “Lotus Flower” and “I Froze Up.” BUT THAT WASN’T IT. Thom also debuted three brand new tracks: “The Daily Mail,” “Give Up The Ghost,” and “Mouse Dog Bird.” Only time will tell whether these new tunes end up on a future Radiohead album or a future solo release (or for a certain upcoming documentary), but one thing’s for certain: Thom sure knows how to rock that delay pedal!

Child Abuse announce Cut and Run on Lovepump United; something about that sentence sounds so wrong

I don’t know what’s more troubling: naming your band Child Abuse, or playing in a band called Child Abuse and deciding to release your new album on a label called Lovepump United. Like it or not, Child Abuse’s second album, Cut and Run, is due out on April 13 through, yes, Lovepump United. If you’re curious as to what the album will sound like, all you need to know is that Child Abuse have toured with The Locust, Pig Destroyer, and Genghis Tron, and that ALARM Magazine said they have “a gift for conveying the giddy, volcanic rush of jazz losing its patience.” So if you like twee and own a cardigan, you may want to skip over this one, kids. Child Abuse will be touring in support of Cut and Run in late Spring.

Tracklisting:

01. Hold This
02. Bebe
03. Cut and Run
04. Opportunity Zone
05. Financial Burden
06. Froze Toes

PJ Harvey Pal John Parish Embarks on a “Rock ’n’ Roll Odyssey” to the Mystical Isle of Soundtracks

You may know him best for A Woman a Man Walked By, his 2009 collaboration with PJ Harvey, but producer/musician/friend-to-the-stars John Parish is a well-regarded solo artist in his own right. Not only has he worked with heavy hitters like Eels, Tracy Chapman, and Giant Sand (among many others), but he’s also known for his soundtracks. Now, with the release of the She, a Chinese soundtrack, Parish’s film work is finally getting wide distribution. The “rock ‘n’ roll odyssey” (as the press materials are calling it) is slated for a US release April 6 and a worldwide digital release March 16 via Dreamboat Records. Not only do you get some stone cold Parish jams on that soundtrack, you also get an early track from Feist, plus Chinese punk rock from Mumma. Now that’s an odyssey I’m willing to embark upon… just keep me away from the ensorcelled swine. I don’t wanna be eating my bacon at breakfast, all worried that it was once human.

She, a Chinese soundtracklisting:

01. Li Mei
02. Fei Fei Run (Mumma)
03. Banjo X
04. Li Mei Makes a Break
05. Drone X
06. Li Mei & Brother Qiang
07. Wildflowers (Tian Zhen)
08. There Is a City (Hang on the Box)
09. Snake at the Docks
10. Spikey’s Place
11. Spikey’s Death
12. What Is Now? (Hang on the Box)
13. Rachid
14. Unseen/Mr Hunt
15. Li Mei & Rachid
16. Link X
17. November
18. Lonely Lonely (Feist)

Little Dragon tour Machine Dreams, appear on Gorillaz’s Plastic Beach, raise question: Is nothing real anymore?

Gothenburg, Sweden’s Little Dragon have been getting less little year by year since their 2007 self-titled debut on Peacefrog. Their second full-length, Machine Dreams, came out last fall, an upbeat mixture of electronics and soul. According to their website, a third album is in the works, but first comes Gorillaz’s Plastic Beach, out March 9.

Yes, the newest album from Gorillaz features an impressive line-up of guest artists: Lou Reed, Snoop Dogg, De La Soul, and The Clash’s Mick Jones and Paul Simonen, to name a few. Little Dragon have one up on all these hot shots, though: unlike the other guests, they appear on two tracks (Bobby Womack and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are also featured twice, though not in the same pairings). Take that, Mos Def! Now the question remains: what does Little Dragon look like animated?

Animated or not, Little Dragon will be touring North America for the next couple months to continue promoting Machine Dreams.
