Nicholas Krgovich (No Kids, P:ANO) self-releases new LP On Sunset

Vancouver-based artist Nicholas Krgovich (KER-ga-VITCH, apparently) has dabbled in a bunch of indie projects (like No Kids, P:ANO, and Gigi) and collaborated with the likes of Mount Eerie and Dirty Projectors’ Amber Coffman. Damn, dude gets around. Now, he’s self-releasing a debut solo album called On Sunset, which drops later this month.

Written in tribute to “a lost Los Angeles,” which Krgovich calls his second home, the orchestral pop record name drops a ton of L.A. landmarks in wistful fashion. It’s a polished, ambitious effort that puts melody and layered arrangements (created with composer Stefan Udell) at the forefront, not to mention Krgovich himself. That’s his face in the extreme-close-up album cover above. Recorded by Colin Steward (Cave Singers, Black Mountain) and produced/mixed by John Collins (Destroyer, New Pornographers), it regularly evokes the cheesy production pleasure of Destroyer’s Kaputt. Yes, it has porny saxophones. Watch the video for “Along the PCH on Oscar Night” below:

According to the album’s press release, “it’s the sound of an artist wanting to share their world but paradoxically building it out of the land of artifice and make-believe.” He’s like a sensual Peter Pan, ladies. On Sunset will be released on October 7 via NK World Service in North America and Tin Angel Records in Europe, and tour plans have yet to be announced. Gives you time to pick out a nice Sunset Strip ensemble.
