Norbert Möslang will release indoor_outdoor on December 10 via Ideologic Organ

Maybe I just haven’t Googled enough, but I can’t seem to piece together a coherent history of Norbert Möslang’s work. I know he played in the free jazz group Voice Crack from 1972 to 2002 and that they experimented with “everyday cracked-electronics.” I know that he’s releasing an LP called indoor_outdoor on December 10 via Ideologic Organ and that the record consists of just two tracks that are each nearly 20 minutes long.

I wish I had a cool video to show you or a couple of relevant anecdotes to tell you. Since I don’t, I’ll make a collage for you. A collage from the press release:

things sounding:
deep electric-rain-forest,
glass windows,
quiet art museum,

(this does not mean to be earnest)

Jeff Mangum, Lee Ranaldo, and Guy Picciotto among those set to perform at Occupy Wall Street-affiliated telethon

Everyone in the New York City area, quick! Grab your pots and pans, it’s… a city-wide cook-off? No! It’s an Occupy Wall Street event, and on second thought, it’s probably best that you leave the cookware at home, for fear of angering a wild Mangum — Jeff Mangum, that is.

On November 15, Jeff Mangum will headline, at New York’s Le Poisson Rouge, “The People’s Bailout: A Variety Show and Telethon to Benefit the 99%,” an event promoted by Strike Debt as the beginning of its Rolling Jubilee project, according to Flavorpill. Strike Debt, according to its website, is an organization that “seeks to abolish debt and reconstruct a just society where our debts and bonds are to one another and not the 1%.” Similarly, all proceeds from Rolling Jubilee “will go directly to buying people’s debt and canceling it,” and the goal of the particular event on November 15 is to raise $50,000 for that cause (according to Pitchfork).

Even better, Mangum won’t be the only musician performing for the sake of this less prominent, but not forgotten movement. Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio, Fugazi’s Guy Picciotto, and Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo will all be performing as well, in addition to activist comedians Jeneane Garofalo, The Yes Men, The Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead, and more. Tickets for the show go on sale November 2 at 10 AM on Le Poisson Rouge’s website. For those unable to physically attend, it will also be streamed live on, from which, according to Spin, Strike Debt will also be taking donations.

You’re totally twinkling right now, aren’t you?

Boris announces tour, split 7-inch with Asobi Seksu

Holiday shopping season is just over the horizon, so it’s time to start thinking about gifts for friends and family. Like most everything in life, the search for a single gift that’s just right for everyone is incredibly elusive (where are Oprah’s Favorite Things when you need them?). Well, let TMT clue you into the must-have gift of the 2012 season: an exclusive split 7-inch from Boris and Asobi Seksu. Just think of the joy on your grandmother’s face when she opens her package from you to find that gleaming disk of pressed vinyl emblazoned with the names of a Japanese noise trio and a Japanese-named shoegaze band! It may be the highlight of her year. Same goes for all those other folks lucky enough to be granted a gift from you this year. You’re awesome.

The split record will be out via Sargent House on Black Friday (November 23) as part of a Record Store Day promotion and will feature Boris doing an Asobi Seksu cover, with the reverse happening on the flipside, so plan on getting in line as early as possible to secure your copies. If your local record store opens at noon, you probably want to aim to arrive around 2:00 AM the night prior (pro tip). Come prepared, but not armed.

To bring even more yuletide cheer into your life, Boris will be touring through jolly old England and other swathes of Western Europe in December, including stops at Camber Sands’ ATP and the State-X New Forms Festival in the Netherlands. Full tourdates and 7-inch details below.

Bee Mask releases new LP on Spectrum Spools AUUUUUUUUGH BEES

Bee Mask must be applauded. Many bands have tried to come up with the most horrifying band name, and all have failed. All except Bee Mask, of course. Is there anything worse than a mask made out of bees? It’s as bad as a beard of bees, but then it’s worse, because it’s your entire face. Horrifying.

Similarly horrifying: eating unripe pears. Seems our old friend Bee Mask is all about that, too! On November 19, Spectrum Spools will release Bee Mask’s new album When We Were Eating Unripe Pears on vinyl. The first 300 copies will be printed on translucent green vinyl. Chris Madak, the man behind the Bee Mask, describes the record as the proper sequel to 2010’s Canzoni dal Laboratorio del Silenzio Cosmico (which made our Favorite Albums list of that year), saying that it “[extends] that record’s preoccupation with the dream interiors of post-1965 Fellini.”

The seven tracks of Unripe Pears were worked on over five years, as Madak worked from sources such as unused demos and previously discarded tracks. These songs were further developed through Bee Mask’s live dates in 2011 and 2012. All together, the album’s tracks were recorded between 2007 and 2012 in Cleveland and Philadelphia. Final editing and mixing took place at Tranquility Base in Summer 2012, while mastering was done by Rashad Becker at Dubplates and Mastering. Then Madak donned his mask of bees and screamed at the songs before he sent them off to Pallas Group for pressing. Maybe part of that didn’t happen. How will you ever know?

While We Were Eating Unripe Pears tracklist:

01. Frozen Falls
02. Moon Shadow Move
03. The Story of Keys and Locks
04. Pink Drinq
05. Fried Niteshades
06. Unripe Pears
07. Rain in Coffee

HEALTH drop out of tour with Crystal Castles; the internet shakes its fist at the sky and screams “WHY?!?!?!”

The internet is a place shrouded in mystery. What evil lurks in the heart of the local news website comment troll? Why does this sexy Russian 18-year-old want to talk to ME? Is that emoticon being sarcastic? Sometimes, like love, the internet brings up more questions than answers. And such is the case with HEALTH canceling their remaining dates with Crystal Castles. (Which was announced, appropriately enough on the internet. The band’s Facebook page to be exact.)

Why did they bow out before last night’s show in Portland? That’s a mystery not even the dozens of disappointed fans commenting on the post can solve. The band writes, “If it were up to us we’d absolutely love to play these last 9 dates. Unfortunately its beyond our control and that’s not possible. We wish our friends Crystal Castles safe travels and good shows.” Let the rampant, baseless speculation begin!

sunn 0))) announce West Coast tour, traveling in a cloud of smoke and skulls and holiday cheer

Happy holidays everyone! There’s no better way to celebrate the holiday season than by absorbing the world-shaking gloom of a sunn 0))) show. It’s just as Krampus intended when he created the holiday in a pit of blackness. That last part is not Krampus canon, so to speak, but you know what’s the god’s honest truth? sunn 0))) are going on a West Coast tour this December. The drone-metal duo will take their best friends Dead in the Dirt and Loincloth with them for a handful of dates along the most West-Coast of states. No states are more West-Coast than these.

If the Mayans are correct (and ugh I am sick of hearing about them), sunn 0))) are closing their West Coast run with one hell of an end-of-the-world party. On December 20, Southern Lord (the label run by sunn 0)))) will hold one of their Power of the Riff concerts at Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre. sunn 0))), Dead in the Dirt, and Loincloth will all play the event, as will High on Fire, Corrosion of Conformity, Black Breath, and Void Ov Voices. This is clearly an enormous amount of metal. Now that I think about it, they may be trying to summon the apocalypse themselves. Please do not summon the apocalypse, sunn 0))).

Dates (all w/ Dead in the Dirt, Loincloth):

12.14.12 - Portland, OR - Roseland/Peter’s Room
12.15.12 - Bellingham, WA - The Wild Buffalo *
