Quick: what makes you wanna dance-till-you-puke-Kahlua MORE? the visceral energy of found-sound electronica? Or the four-on-the-floor party pulse of Latin-based dance hall music?
Trick question. You totally don’t have to pick one AT ALL, thanks to the work of the jointly Paris-/Santiago-based experimental duo NOVA MATERIA. These cats use everything from “scrap metal tubes, stones rubbed on metal, drums, beat boxes, bass, and electric guitars used as percussion” to channel the raw energy of musique concrete into the ass-shaking fury of a Parisian dance floor.
All The Way, their second EP, is set to be released January 17 digitally and February 22 physically by Chilean label BYM and will feature remixes from Alejandro Paz, Föllakzoid, and Paul Thomson (of Franz Ferdinand). While you’re waiting to get down, warm up by tapping your foot along to the video for the EP’s opening track “ON/AV.” It was directed by Frederic Lebain & Grégoire Pedron and features visuals that, I think I can safely say, “totally and 100% ‘ROCK’.” Check it out for yourself down below, if only so that my fantastic pun won’t be lost on you.
