NY venue Trans-Pecos pulls in a fresh batch of curators, including James Chance, Hisham Bharoocha, and David Grubbs

It wasn’t likely at all, but with the recent reception of their long-awaited liquor license, NY venue Trans-Pecos could’ve easily drowned itself in a celebratory consumption of libations, literally flooding the Ridgewood block nary a day after the framed license was nailed to the wall. Luckily, founders Sam Hillmer (of ZS) and Todd P have no interest in divvying away their DIY locale for the sake of riding a beer wave out through the windows; their focus on curatorial band bookings continues to this day, nearly two years after they opened their doors and about nine months after Kayo Dot and Islaja performed a show that distantly had me raging at my geographically-hindered attendance. The show was paradoxical and earth-shattering synergy, I imagine!

Hillmer just recently hit us up with news about Trans-Pecos’s new round of curators. Replacing folks like PC Worship and (the folks at) Northern Spy are no-wave legend James Chance, Sort Circle member/former Black Dice drummer Hisham Bharoocha, Robert AA Lowe, Hiro Kone, noise artist Bob Bellerue, Lamin Fofana, Don Devore, and David Grubbs (formerly of Gastr del Sol). Upcoming shows include one curated by Bob Bellerue that features the Lowe act Lichens and an AdHoc show featuring Silver Apples, Bookworms, and TMT favorite Giant Claw. That one looks especially good.

CHECK THINGS OUT FOR YOURSELF.
