of Montreal announce live album, US tour, provide option for those allergic to psychedelic tiger dancers

Not that I’m breaking any news here, but of Montreal have a distinctive live show. And until psychedelic dancers dressed in tiger masks, ten-foot-tall dresses, and monsters with giant fists become the norm, they’ll probably stay pretty darn distinctive. Though what if you have an aversion to such things? Not, like, you dislike them, but you have an actual doctor’s note saying to avoid exposure to psych-fantasy visuals? Well, wonderful news, friend. You, too, can safely experience the of Montreal live show with their upcoming live album, Lustrous Doomings, due out April 18 through Polyvinyl.

If you’ve been keeping up with record store-based holidays, you know that April 18 is Record Store Day. As such, the record is an RSD exclusive, limited to 3000 copies. Each copy is a 2xLP pressed onto 180 gram yellow-and-orange vinyl, possibly too colorful for the psych-averse but, whatever, you’ll manage. The 19-track album consists of 90 minutes of recording from performances at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall and Portland’s Wonder Ballroom, thus bending the laws of time and space.

For those without the hang-ups, of Montreal are currently on tour. They’ll be on the road until early April, dragging a practical warehouse of costumes and sets from East Coast to West Coast and back. Go see it if you’re not afraid of exploding mushrooms full of confetti or, you know, other stuff like that.
