Omar Souleyman can't be put to rest, plans more shows in these United States

Omar Souleyman, the crown prince of Syrian dabke street music, has been in high demand as of late. Within the last year, the man has struck out on a couple of extensive European and UK tours promoting his third album for Sublime Frequencies, Jazeera Nights (TMT Review), during which he was handpicked to play the Pavement-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Minehead, England. In between European tours, he did a stint in the US and Canada, and it was awesome.

But as recent as all that seems, he’s somehow back in the US at the end of this month, starting off a series of shows by appearing at MoogFest 2010 in Asheville, North Carolina, followed by a few dates up North. No word on how or why he’s decided to extend his run through this side of the world. Odds are he just doesn’t know how to stop movin’, and we should all be grateful for that.

Souleyman tourdates:

10.31.10 - Asheville, NC - Moog Fest
11.01.1o - Minneapolis, MN - The Cedar
11.02.10 - Brooklyn, NY - Music Hall of Williamsburg
11.03.10 - Philadelphia, PA - Johnny Brenda’s
11.04.10 - Boston, MA - Arts-Emerson
11.05.10 - Purchase, NY - SUNY Purchase
