Ora Iso release their debut album Bathcat, stream first track

The Brooklyn-based industrial duo Ora Iso have announced their first LP, Bathcat, out now on Ba Da Bing Records. Characterized by a heavily distorted sound that ebbs from identifiable song structures into noisy oblivion, Ora Iso’s music comes across as a mixture of Les Rallizes Dénudés and Throbbing Gristle; or, if you prefer contemporary references, a less shouty Pharmakon. True to that ethos, the duo recorded this album under the influence of Lary 7, a fellow sound artist best known for his collaborations with Tony Conrad, Faust, Alexander Hacke, Jarboe, Foetus and many others, who surely let you in on the kind of electronic device manipulation he’s famous for.

Ora Iso is formed by Kathleen Malay, a classically-trained pianist from Indonesia and Jason Kudo, who used to play guitar with freeform rock outfit Modra. Together, they probe the dark confines of an early Industrial register, still close to its post-punk roots, as the funeral haze — Bauhaus-like guitars and all — of their track “Ora Iso” attest. You can stream it below.

Bathcat is out now via Ba Da Bing Records.
