OMG! Thank GAWD, everyone! We just got word that legendary band-Kurt-Cobain-liked the Pixies has totally, emphatically, and officially REUNITED (after taking the weekend off to plan, shop for, and host Academy Awards Parties at their houses, that is) to once again take the indie rock world by storm with its unprecedented blend of guitars, drums, and vocals! Granted, Kim Deal looks like she got a makeover or had a spa day or something in the interim, but never mind that. The point IS: it’s all happening for real. The stars have re-aligned. I’m so totally stoked.
The tour announcement follows the band’s earlier announcement — which itself induced traffic jams, winter storms, and sheer pandemonium on Wall Street — that they’d be totally, emphatically, and officially REUNITING for three festival appearances (at the Big Guava, Shaky Knees, and Boston Calling festivals, respectively) and follows fresh on the heels of their surprise, self-released, pay-what-we-say album Indie Cindy.
A special “fan-only pre-sale” (psst: the password for the pre-sale is “snakes”) is set to begin at 9:00 AM EST on Wednesday, February 25 (general sale starts Friday, February 27), at which time the US and Canadian governments have announced that they will will temporarily “widen the internet” to accommodate the potentially debilitating sudden rush of traffic. The pre-sale ticket links will be available on the band’s website.
Other than that, there’s precious little information available at this time concerning this singular moment in our shared history as rock music fans, and as a journalist, I don’t want to be accused of making speculations here; but let’s just say… I have a FEELING that the openers for these shows will TOTALLY be Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and (on the West Coast) Sublime.
