Portishead announce release of charity single, then wait a long time to physically release it

With a spine-tingling caterwaul, Portishead have announced the upcoming release of a limited-edition single for their track “Chase the Tear” on XL Recordings. The release was available as a download back in 2009, but now it will be available on 12-inch vinyl and as a digital download… again! In these sour times, Portishead is doing some good and donating all proceeds from the sale of the single to Amnesty International. In addition to the title track, the single will also feature a B-side of Toronto-based group Doldrums reworking the source material.

Interested parties should hop on a flight to NYC and hit up the Independent Label Market where 200 signed copies will be available for purchase on October 8; the rest of us dummies will have to wait for the proper November 14 release.

Finally, if you’re lucky enough to have tickets, don’t forget to use them to see Portishead live on their current North American tour.
