Psymun announces Rainbow Party EP on Ghostly, premieres new track "I Need My Boy"
Psymun says: party.

Minneapolis producer Psymun, the prolific creator and member of the soundcloud supergroup Thestand4rd (with Corbin FKA Spooky Black, Bobby Raps, and Allen Kingdom) is adding to the multicolored Cinco de Mayo excitement with the May 5 release of his debut EP Rainbow Party, via the Ghostly label.

The three-track, 12-inch EP hosts old haunts and shuffles through new ideas and BPMs, not totally brushing aside his known rap-aided collaborations, but spending the latter two tracks exploring branches of technique (in a manner not unlike Clams Casino on his Rainforest EP). A prime example being the album’s second track “I Need My Boy,” which TMT has the pleasure of premiering for your partying pleasure today.

Usually kind to the more dreary side of hip hop productions, “I Need My Boy” is a hardware-focused track as akin to mid-oughts freak folk as it is to a neighborhood noise project. The track was inspired by pal and fellow Minnesotan Ryan Olson (of Poliça), who prompted Psymun to work exclusively at 55bpm. The result is a collection of slow churning warm, shivering synths born out of hectic static being methodically struck down by analog thumps and the cheers of children.
