Radiohead Haiti benefit show released as a multi-cam 2-disc DVD

Radiohead Haiti benefit show released as a multi-cam 2-disc DVD http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/default/files/news-11-01-radiohead-dvd.png

Last January, Radiohead setup a last-minute benefit show in L.A. to raise money in the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake. Fourteen fans took their camcorders to the show and, after a concerted joint effort spearheaded by superfan Inez, produced a multi-cam 2-disc DVD set. With help from Radiohead, Inez and other fans are now making the 24-song set available for download here. And in the spirit of the original performance, they’ve even partnered with Oxfam to setup a special donation page. Kudos for making shit happen!

Read Colin Greenwood’s post about the DVD set here.

Raekwon expects to release two albums in 2011; we expect it, too

It’s hard to believe that Raekwon released Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part 2 (TMT Review) back in September 2009. I could’ve sworn that the album was released in August 2009! Time flies. Well, I hope 2011 flies by too, because then the wait between the two expected Rae albums will only feel that much shorter.

Yep, that’s right. According to VIBE (via 2dopeboyz), The Chef expects to release not one, not three, but two albums in 2011. These include not only the much-anticipated, due-on-March-8th Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang — which was originally intended as a Wu-minus-RZA response to 8 Diagrams (TMT Review) — but also another as-yet untitled full-length that features production from the likes of Just Blaze and Kanye West, due tentatively in October. Actually, let me just copy/paste the news from VIBE:

The Chef’s got more cooking for 2011 than just his much-anticipated fifth LP, Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang (due in March). A source close to Raekwon tells VIBE that the storytelling MC has plans for a second album before 2012 hits. The as-yet-untitled project, said to contain more “DJ-oriented” and “harmony-based” records—will feature production by the likes of Just Blaze and Kanye West, while keeping with the traditional Wu-Tang sound and aesthetic. Recorded while Rae simultaneously created the kung-fu heavy concept album Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang, the halfway complete opus is expected to drop in October.

If you want more Rae, check out our interview with him here. If you want something with more immediacy, check this out:

Animal Collective add Big Boi, Terry Riley, Orthrelm, Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 to ATP

Just when you thought Animal Collective have stopped adding artists to their very own All Tomorrow’s Parties fest, Animal Collective have resumed adding artists to their very own All Tomorrow’s Parties fest. In addition to unique performances by The Frogs (performing It’s Only Right & Natural), Group Doueh, and the Meat Puppets (performing Up On The Sun), one could and should expect minimalist Terry Riley, cult favorite Thinking Fellers Union Local 282, TMT favorite Orthrelm, and token Outkast member Big Boi to show up on stage. The AnCo boys have even tapped hot acts like Atlas Sound and Teengirl Fantasy, as well as Paw Tracks-related artists Tickley Feather and Kría Brekkan, because they can.

Here’s what the full lineup looks like so far, according to ATP:

ANIMAL COLLECTIVE / BIG BOI (Outkast) / TERRY RILEY / THINKING FELLERS UNION LOCAL 282 / GANG GANG DANCE / LEE SCRATCH PERRY / ATLAS SOUND / ARIEL PINK’S HAUNTED GRAFFITI / BROADCAST / BLACK DICE / MEAT PUPPETS performing Up On The Sun / THE FROGS performing It’s Only Right & Natural / IUD / OMAR-S / PRINCE RAMA / SPECTRUM / DENT MAY / GROUP DOUEH / THE BROTHERS UNCONNECTED / SUBLIME FREQUENCIES DJs + Films / DERADOORIAN / ZOMBY / VLADISLAV DELAY / MICACHU AND THE SHAPES / TEENGIRL FANTASY / DRAWLINGS / TICKLEY FEATHER / ORTHRELM (MICK BARR) / ERIC COPELAND (Black Dice) / KRIA BREKKAN / THE ENTRANCE BAND

More artists are set to be announced, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, let’s end this story with an eerily fitting quote by St. Nobodaddy: “Mark your calendars, folks. AncoTP is going down at Butlins Holiday Centre in Minehead, England May 13-15.”

Tyvek tour U.S. to confirm they’re not just a polyurethane product

Tyvek’s sound, much like the condition of the city of Detroit from which they hail, is a filthy mess going in complete structural reverse. Instead of building up, their songs break and strip down and completely fall apart. Which is exactly what is so damn refreshing about Tyvek’s existence. They realize everything’s been done, so instead of progressing they, in turn, digress. All this is embodied in their second full-length Nothing Fits, which was just released by In the Red.

With this raucous piece of rockery still fresh in people’s ears, Tyvek are manning four wheels and hittin’ the road come January. Because who wouldn’t want an excuse to get out of Detroit.

Dates:

01.13.11 - Cleveland, OH - Beachland Ballroom
01.14.11 - Philadelphia, PA - Cha Cha Razzi Warehouse
01.15.11 - Brooklyn, NY - Glasslands

Björk performs at world’s most amazing karaoke marathon today in Iceland

Björk will perform with environmentalist/reporter/entertainer Ómar Ragnarsson at an Icelandic karaoke marathon today! It’s just like in that movie Duets, where Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis sing that one horrible song you always hear at Walmart! Except that it won’t suck. And it’s to protect natural resources in Iceland, so it’s for a good cause, not a $500 check and a Red Lobster gift certificate or something. (Note: I never saw that movie.) So yeah, it’s basically nothing like Duets. Sorry.

The marathon takes place today, the traditional last day of the Christmas holidays, at Nordic House in Reykjavik. According to Iceland Review Online, January 6 is a holiday called Threttándinn, “a magical day in Icelandic folklore when supernatural beings came out from their hidden world and walked among humans. The day is traditionally celebrated with bonfires and fireworks shows.” In other words, Threttándinn is clearly the best holiday ever.

In other Björk news, the delightful artist has contributed a song to the new iPad book Solar System, which allows readers to look at 3D versions of the planets and learn about the wonders of our universe.
