Unlike Christmas, Record Store Day does not come but once a year. It comes, like, one and a half times. You get your normal Record Store Day, and then you get your special Record Store Day Black Friday. What’s Record Store Day Black Friday, you ask? Well, it’s [insert Rebecca Black, “Friday” joke here]! Nah, that was just me joking! It’s actually like a mini-RSD in honor of our greatest national pastime: giving thanks. No! Ha ha! I kid again! It’s a mini-RSD in honor of national ability to BUY THINGS.
But this consumerism is cool, and kinda valiant and stuff because we’re talking about buying exclusive releases available only at independent record stores. This year, the magic happens on November 25, and the release list is the usual sprinkling of weirdness (a Fear 7-inch single of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”) combined with a large amount of “Um, I guess I’ll get this for Dad instead of the socks he always asks for” (see: a bunch of Beatles objects) and like 17 releases by bizarro 60s novelty surf-rockers Mr. Gasser & the Weirdos. Perhaps the most exciting release planned for Record Store Day Black Friday, though, is The Black Keys’ Lonely Boy, which we can only assume is a concept album devoted entirely to the online nickname of Gossip Girl’s Dan Humphrey.
