Drum & Bass elder/innovator Roni Size has announced two new releases for his soon-to-be-launched label Mansion Sounds. The first, an EP titled Size Matters (come on Roni), will arrive August 18. The second, a full album called Take Kontrol, will drop August 25. Take Kontrol will be Roni Size’s first new album since Return to V, which was released nearly a decade ago.
Size Matters will consist of select cuts from Take Kontrol, and Take Control will consist of “dancefloor cuts for the heads.” Thusly, Size Matters will also consist of “dancefloor cuts for the heads.” A 16-track version of the album will be released on CD and digital formats, but iTunes has a special 25-track version that also includes a DJ mix. You can pre-order the EP here, the standard album here, and the deluxe version here.
It should be noted that Roni Size is not always just “Roni-Size.” Many of his most popular tracks, including the classic “Brown Paper Bag,” were recorded with his band Reprazent — one of the first to ride the sometimes-famous, sometimes-infamous “live Drum & Bass” wave of the 90s. Look at this guy!
Neither Size Matters nor Take Kontrol will feature Reprazent, however. However, it has been announced that Reprazent will drop a new album in early 2015. But that’s all we know about that.
You should realize that a few tracks from Take Kontrol have been floating around the internet. Mixmag premiered “Made in Korea” earlier this month; Annie Mac of BBC Radio 1 played “Final Days” on her show; and the one, the only UKF bestowed “Power” upon us through their Drum & Bass channel. Size is also giving away a track called “Bite the Bullet (2014 remix)” for free on Facebook — if you sign onto a mailing list, that is.
