Looking for something to sweeten up your Tuesday? Look no further than With Love, the new full-length from Rosie Thomas, out as of V-Day on Sing-A-Long Records. Produced by Pedro the Lion’s David Bazan and featuring guest vocals from Iron and Wine’s Sam Beam, it’s a veritable frosted cupcake of indie deliciousness!

Prior to recording With Love, Thomas struggled for two years with a thyroid disorder that created the unfortunate side effect of severe anxiety. That sounds… not happy? The album, however, reflects her experience of emerging out of that period in her life, as well as the changes that took place over the course of its creation, including a move from Seattle to New York and a wedding.

When asked about the making of the album recently, Thomas noted that Bazan asked her early on in the process to, “list every singer and song that she loved, including the guilty pleasures.” Obviously she instantly thought of Metallica frontman James Hetfield, popular screamo group Hawthorne Heights, and Diamanda Galas (I kid). No, Thomas called out some obvious influences, like Linda Rondstadt and Joni Mitchell, but also noted some surprising favorites, like the recently late Whitney Houston’s “Dance with Somebody” and the entire Bette Midler ouvre. With these icons at the forefront of their minds, Bazan encouraged Thomas to record songs with additional vocal heft, bringing her voice to the forefront of the album’s mix.
