It’s easy to feel removed from a conflict when major television networks are generally more concerned with covering a president-elect’s latest expression of ineptitude, so just in case you aren’t totally caught up with the issue at hand, a company called Energy Transfer Partners wants to complete construction of the Dakota Access (oil) Pipeline, which would theoretically run from northwest North Dakota diagonally through to Illinois. Residents of Bismarck successfully opposed a proposed route that would’ve posed a threat to that city’s water supply, and consequently, the route currently facing protests would fall under the Missouri River and within a half mile of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. A spill along that route could still affect the primary water supply of the local Standing Rock Sioux tribe, and critics have alleged inadequate consultation and a neglectful review of the environmental impacts by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

“We are in for the long haul,” a member of the Standing Rock Sioux recently said, referring to the protests.

Joining them from afar in their fight is Brooklyn-based record label Sacred Bones, which has just announced a sale benefiting those peacefully resisting water hoses, dogs, and pepper spray all for the sake of maintaining the integrity of their land. From now until December 4 (this Sunday), proceeds from everything purchased “pay what you want” via the Sacred Bones Bandcamp will be donated to the Standing Rock water protectors. The label has already raised $5000+ in a little over a day.

Here’s the Bandcamp. Check out releases from Jenny Hval, Pharmakon, Marissa Nadler, Zola Jesus, and more.
