Sacred Bones to reissue Part 1's debut EP Funeral Parade, band tours US for the first time

Last year, Sacred Bones Records, home to all things dark and post-punky, released their first archival anthology: Killed by Deathrock, a collection of obscure (mostly) European deathrock acts. That album expanded the catalogue-wide reissues the label has been devoting to French coldwave deviants Trop Tard and British goth-rock overlords 13th Chime and Vex. But Sacred Bone’s latest archival foray combines both projects, with a reissue of one of deathrock’s finest debut albums, Part 1’s Funeral Parade. Members of London’s early-80s anarcho-punk scene, alongside Crass, Amebix, and Rudi Peni, Part 1 were very likely deathrock’s patient zero. The group’s 1982 debut EP, Funeral Parade, was originally released in an edition of 300 on their own label, and it’s been extraordinarily hard to get. The EP is Part 1’s sole vinyl release, given how they preferred the DIY-friendly tape format.

Part 1 broke up in 1983, after releasing a demo LP and a live album on cassette, but they’re in full comeback mode now. In fact, the group will be hitting the US this month to play their first-ever stateside shows. Founding members Mark Ferelli and Jake Baker reactivated the group in 2013, with the help of Oi Polloi’s Chris Low and Adam And the Ant’s David Barnett. They have played a bunch of shows in the UK so far, in what is a new chapter in their career, a sequel to their Anarchy Center-touring days, a continuation of… [must… resist… the pun…]. The point is that Part 1 will be playing a few shows on the East Coast to celebrate the EP’s release. You can check the tour dates below.

Funeral Parade will be available as a remastered 12-inch vinyl in a gatefold sleeve and includes a horror fanzine and unpublished artwork by Ferelli. The EP is out April 14. Stream a sample track here:
