Screaming Females Head into the Studio, Tour with Ted Leo, Just Scream and Scream and Scream and Screeeeeeeam

Let’s start this story out the right way with a quote from the venerable Teen Vogue. Ahem:

Screaming Females is a rock trio from my home state of New Jersey. And like many NJ notables, these two guys and gal know how to rock.

A sterling assessment from an esteemed cultural institution indeed! I wonder if that quote came from a single person or if the Teen Vogue staff just gathered all their iMacs on the Jersey Turnpike and typed in unison. Damn you press release for your lack of specific attribution!

Anyway, in case you hadn’t heard, Screaming Females are two guys and a gal from New Jersey who really know how to rock. How much about rocking do they know, you ask? Well you can find out for your damn self on their upcoming tour with none other than Ted Leo and his Phamous Pharmacists (Not to be confused with Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist). But if you can’t make it to a show, that’s okay, because once they’re back home in Jersey, Screaming Females are screaming into the studio to record their fourth full-length album, due sometime in autumn. It looks like that state’s gonna have some real good days ahead of them, at least until season two of Jersey Shore pukes back onto the airwaves.

Vanilla Ice to stop, collaborate, and perform at Glastonbury?

All right, stop. No seriously, stop, collaborate, and listen, because the media is going nuts reporting that Vanilla Ice has confirmed an appearance at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, alongside acts like Animal Collective, Blur, and Neil Young. The “confirmation,” as publications like Spinner and NME are reporting, was made through a post on his MySpace page, but the actual post has apparently been taken down, perhaps because the full lineup for Glastonbury has yet to be announced. (You can see the main stage line up here.)

Assuming the post was legit, Vanilla Ice didn’t actually land a spot to lay down his rhymes on a stage. Instead, according to the original MySpace post, he is scheduled to perform inside one of the bars at the festival on June 24. That makes sense though, when you consider the fact that you’d have to be intoxicated to think it’s funny and ironic to watch him perform.

Glastonbury runs from June 23 to 27 and tickets go on sale at 9 AM on April 11, with or without Ice.

Members of Refused deny reunion rumors; introduce new band AC4 instead

Last week, defunct Swedish hardcore-punkers, Refused, updated their official website to read “Coming Soon,” causing the internet to temporarily go crazy and wonder if they would be reuniting this year. NME even went so far as to publish a story confirming the reunion, which has since been proved false by an email exchange between Buddyhead’s Travis Keller and former Refused singer, Dennis Lyxzén. According to Lyxzén, himself and fellow former Refused member David Sandström are headed out on a short European tour with their new band, AC4.

So, yes, no Refused reunion it seems, but check out AC4 anyway, alright?

The Black Keys tour as brothers, support the release of Brothers as brothers, possibly bathe as brothers?

Let’s get one thing straight. The Black Keys (Dan Autumnbottom and Patrick Stump, I think their names are?) are not, in fact, biological “brothers.” Oh SURE, they may “bro-down” a lot together, and they probably know more about each other from both releasing records like the forthcoming Brothers LP (due May 18 via Nonesuch) and touring the world together in support of said recordings… but let’s be honest here: these guys are liars. And moreover, as a male myself who actually DOES have a male sibling out there in the world, I find their cavalier and insensitive casual use of the term “brothers” to be oppressive, confrontational, and offensive. There’s a word for what they’re doing. It’s called Fratricism, people! The smugness of these guys will not stand! Not in MY United States of America, friends.

I am here today to suggest that we TRUE brothers unite in a fraternal boycott of all promotions and tourdates related to this Black Keys release! Who is with me? Never mind that they’ve just added a second show at Central Park’s SummerStage on July 28 following their sold-out July 27 show! And never mind that those Fratricists who purchase presale tickets starting March 30 through the band’s website will receive a special bundle, which includes a copy of Brothers upon its release (either digital only or digital and physical!), as well as two free instant downloads from the album — “Next Girl” and the Dangermouse-produced “Tighten Up”! And certainly never mind that The Black Keys will also be playing a handful of spring warm-up dates, including an opening slot for their professed-heroes Pearl Jam at Madison Square Garden on May 20 and performances on the Late Show on May 25 and Late Night with Whoever on May 26! No, my friends. Pay no attention to these things whatsoever. Resist the temptation to dance and sing to this catchy-yet-myth-perpetuating devil music! Biological brothers unite! The degradation ends today.

Abracadabra! White Rabbits Tour with Here We Go Magic

Somewhere, several publicists are patting themselves on the back for convincing White Rabbits to tour with Here We Go Magic. Abracadabra, alakazam — yay puns! But seriously, do you think the two bands are going to be too busy making each other disappear and sawing their tour managers in half to make it to each venue in time for soundcheck? Just something to think about it. White Rabbits are supporting their 2009 release It’s Frightening (TMT Review), out now on TBD Records, and Here We Go Magic are supporting their 2009 self-titled album, also available now on Western Vinyl.
