Remember in March, when Ben Weasel of Screeching Weasel fame punched two women at SXSW? I remember that, because it is easy to remember when famous punk rock frontmen do stupid, indefensible things. Of course, if I didn’t remember such things, Ben Weasel’s bizarre rants are always there to remind me. But that should be the end of that. Finally, we do not have to think about Ben Weasel’s idiotic antics and we can get back to thinking about things that have nothing to do with angry, old punk dudes.
Oh ho! Wait one second! Someone’s a silly, naive fool and that somebody is me.
Exclaim! reports that Screeching Weasel are returning on October 29 with the Carnival of Schadenfreude EP through Recess Records. In typical Weasel fashion, the EP’s title track finds the frontman sincerely apologizing and mending his burnt bridges. AHAHAHAHAHA that’s not what is happening. As Weasel basically puts it, the internet is dumb and he is smart and rich and here’s a song about that. There’s also a song called “Fox News,” which may or may not be about how Mr. Weasel thinks it is awesome. Who knows?
Because everybody else in Screeching Weasel bailed after SXSW, the EP is Ben Weasel’s first release with a new backing band. That very lineup will be making their live debut at Reggie’s in Chicago on the same day as the EP’s release. As it turns out, that show is sold out and I do not entirely understand the world we live in.
