Sean McCann announces new album Music for Public Ensemble, taps Graham Lambkin, Ian William Craig, Cameron Stallones, and more

At long last: Sean McCann has announced the follow-up to 2013’s incredible Music for Private Ensemble. Titled Music for Public Ensemble, the album is composed of 16 tracks, with help from Graham Lambkin, Ian William Craig, Cameron Stallones, Rob Magill, Matthew Sullivan, Maxwell August Croy, Sarah Davachi, Scott Foust, Seth Kasselman, and many more. According to McCann: “Many of the pieces are text-based; reflections stemming from McCann’s book Pacifics (R14). The narrative is meaningless or meaningful.”

The album also features the “Rose-Paste Chorale,” which consists of singers that McCann had sought during an open call earlier this year. Check below for both a performance from the Rose-Paste Chorale on “Video Singing Score no.3” and an excerpt of “Lurida,” both of which we have the pleasure of premiering.

Music for Public Ensemble is out November 11 on McCann’s own Recital imprint, available as a double LP in a limited edition of 500, which includes a 12-page booklet of texts, artwork, and program notes. Pre-order here and revisit Music for Private Ensemble, which was #13 on our 2013 year-end list.
