Ulrich Schnauss Remixin’ Like Mad for New Collection
By Harold Shueberg on Feb 16 2010
It looks like Germany’s very own ambient/IDM producer Ulrich Schnauss has quite a few friends out there, and in high places. Not exactly a surprising fact, considering the man’s scope of musical virtuosity, his range across the genre spectrum, and let’s not forget his undeniable production skill. It’s hard not to like a musician who, regardless of what type of music you happen to subscribe to, will most likely grab your ear due to at least one element within his varied output. Thus, on March 15, a select few of these far-reaching friends will be allowing him to release remixes of some (in Schnauss’ opinion ALL) of their best tracks. Schnauss has decided to title this release (his first since 2008’s Stars EP) Missing Deadlines - Selected Remixes, and he’s been kind enough to provide us with a snippet of words describing the relevancy of this particular album:
“Essentially what makes me really happy about this album is the fact that it’s a selection of the – in my opinion – best mixes from a musical point of view, rather than a compilation of the commercially most successful ones, or the tracks that have the biggest names associated with them. In all cases, the original songs are already great in their own right – which made it really inspiring to work with them.”
Missing Deadlines is set for release on March 23 through UK label Rocket Girl. Given the aesthetic parallels he shares with many of these artists, I can definitely feel him giving these tracks a needed warm rubdown in this neverending winter season. Speaking of tracks:
01. Howling Bells - “Setting Sun”
02. A Sunny Day in Glasgow - “Ghost in the Graveyard”
03. Katharina Franck - “Faithful Friend”
04. Madrid - “Out to Sea”
05. Asobi Seksu - “Strawberries”
06. Dragons - “Remembrance”
07. Aus - “Halo”
08. Mahogany - “Supervitesse”
09. Lunz (Roedelius & Tim Story) - “Lunz”
10. Rachel Goswell - “Coastline”
11. High Violets - “Chinese Letter”
12. Mark Gardener - “Story of the Eye”
13. I’m Not a Gun - “Make Sense and Loose”
14. Mojave 3 - “Bluebird of Happiness”

iTunes to Hit 10 Billion Song Downloads; App Store Is Jealous
By Deno on Feb 16 2010
Apple sure loves them some milestones. Not long ago they were touting the billionth download from their “game-changing” App Store, and now their ubiquitous iTunes store is about to hit 10 billion songs sold. Take that, App Store!
The sheer volume of music sold through Apple’s service is certainly mind boggling, but what might be even more interesting is the list of most-downloaded songs. Many of the singles, like The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling,” Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face,” and Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok,” were released just last year or the year before. Since the iTunes store opened in 2003, that means those tracks sold better in a year (in some cases less) than songs that have been around for seven. It appears the digital download market continues to gain momentum and that Apple may be celebrating many more milestones to come. Perhaps the iPad will shock us all by selling 10 trillion units in its first month.
Apple plans to show its appreciation for all the good fortune by giving away a $10,000 iTunes gift certificate to the lucky shopper who pushes them past the mark. That may seem like a lot, until you realize you could spend it all and only fill up a quarter of a 160GB iPod classic.
Here’s the list of the all-time best sellers on iTunes (courtesy of Digital Music News):
01. Black Eyed Peas, “I Gotta Feeling”
02. Lady Gaga, “Poker Face”
03. Black Eyed Peas, “Boom Boom Pow”
04. Jason Mraz, “I’m Yours”
05. Coldplay, “Viva la Vida”
06. Lady Gaga & Colby O’Donis, “Just Dance”
07. Flo Rida, “Low feat. T-Pain”
08. Taylor Swift, “Love Story”
09. Leona Lewis, “Bleeding Love”
10. Ke$ha, “Tik Tok”
11. Fat Worm of Error, “Let’s Fool the Meat to the Hassle Room”
In One Glorious Day, Male Bonding Reveals Tourdates, Debut LP, and Plans to Fix Up the Old Buick with Dad
By Kid Midnight on Feb 16 2010
Male Bonding: one of the many, mighty glues that hold our world together, keeping families and communities joyful and prosperous. Indeed, Male Bonding has done many things for modern society, including painting and sanding boats, shooting a killer game of basketball after dinner, the Revolutionary War, and talking about girls and sex. But even with this impressive resume of life-affirming deeds, Male Bonding isn’t done yet.
Male Bonding, the indie rock band signed to Sub Pop, have declared that they will add to the tradition of male bonding by going on a cross-country tour dedicated to fishing trips, football games, and throwing back a couple beers at the local bar. “I had a great time, son.” “Me too… Dad.”

Thanks Mango for letting us know the lineup… twice.
On a side note: when I went to Sasquatch! in 2006, get this: I left — ha, ha, ha — before The, err, Flaming Lips were on! Not that I regret it now… no, no… of course not… had to be back home in time for dinner… couldn’t possibly miss dinner.
DON’T JUDGE ME.
