Sharon Jones's pancreatic cancer returns

Damn it. No emoticon can frown hard enough or tear-up quickly enough, folks.

As a recent post on Indiewire has pointed out, iconic funk/soul singer and general badass-extraordinaire Sharon Jones — who initially announced her battle with pancreatic cancer a few years ago but had more or less whooped the disease by the release of last year’s celebratory Give The People What They Want — has announced that her cancer has returned and that she will begin a new round of chemotherapy this week.

Jones’s initial struggles with the disease and their effects on her life and career with The Dap-Kings were premiered in documentary-form just this past Friday at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she appeared in person to make her announcement. “I start chemo on Wednesday,” Jones said in remarks to the blog Thompson on Hollywood. “But I’m gonna keep fighting. We got a long way to go.” Her oncologist was also on hand during the weekend’s proceedings and seemed to indicate that, while certainly a terrible piece of news, Jones’s prognosis does indeed remain hopeful.

For now, take a few minutes and listen to a Dap-Kings jam down below, and let’s channel some good vibes for the lady, shall we, dear readers?
