St. Vincent Plots Headlining Tour in Support of New Record, Presumes a Lot About Her Own Fame

So, I guess every Indie Rock media outlet in the IRPA (Indie Rock Press Association) hopped on GoToMeeting.com or whatever and had a quick conference some time ago, in which they unanimously decided that “The Western World loves St. Vincent and cannot wait for her new record and subsequent tour plans to drop.” Unfortunately, we here at Tiny Mix Tapes don’t really get those meeting invites anymore, ever since we unwisely tried to voice our concerns at that whole Vampire Weekend-Weekend Conference thing last year. We just get emailed a bunch of cliff notes after the fact, and that’s about it. Oh well, what can you do? Here, let’s see what we’ve got this time...

IRPA Basics, “St. Vincent”:

- St. Vincent (Annie Clark) confirms an extensive U.S. Tour in support of “anticipated new album.”
- New Album Actor due May 5 on 4AD.
- The tour will include the largest venues St. Vincent has ever headlined (important; stress twice if you have to!) and also includes stops at Sasquatch! And Bonnaroo this summer.
- Clark to preview songs from Actor this week at South by Southwest (call it “SXSW”); two showcases there (many other bands are actually playing several more times than that: don’t mention!)

Deerhoof Want You to Join the Band, Continue Tour in April

The unconventional rockers of Deerhoof are at it again, and they're spreading the word: Sharing is caring, people. Sharing is caring.

Prior to releasing Offend Maggie (TMT Review) in October 2008, the band provided sheet music to "Fresh Born," allowing and encouraging musically-inclined fans to submit their own versions of the song (TMT News).

Indeed, Deerhoof embraces your artistic talents, and as a follow up to "Fresh Born," these guys are offering you -- that's right, you -- another chance to show your musical chops. This time they've provided everything you need to make your very own "Buck And Judy" track. According to Indaba Music:

The Challenge... In Two Parts

Part 1. Deerhoof's offering a sheet music arrangement of "Buck and Judy", as well as tabs showing exactly how Deerhoof played the two guitar parts and bass part. This way you can play parts of the song yourselves. Replace one of the instruments or add an entirely new one. When you're ready, add your contribution to the tracks section.

Part 2. Deerhoof has already uploaded the drums, bass, two guitars, piano, and vocal from their recording of the song. Use any combination of the uploaded stems (from Deerhoof or any other Indaba member) to create your version of the song. Post the finished version to the mixdown section!

To get your creative juices flowing, I suggest you add the "Buck And Jucky" video to your Saturday morning cartoons. Now, get to writing some music!

Michael Jackson’s 50-date Tour Rips off Fans via Secondary Market, Proves Charles Darwin Wrong

Evolutionary theory was proved to be false last Friday the 13th, as around 250,000 Neanderthals attempted to buy tickets for Michael Jackson’s ‘This is It’ tour at the O2 arena in London. With tickets selling out in record time, promoters have seen this as an excellent opportunity to extort wealthy MJ fans by flogging some of the best seats on the “secondary market.”

AEG Live, the organizers of Jackson’s 50-date tour, authorized Viagogo to sell these premium tickets to homo sapiens using a reliable peer-to-peer platform. However, the head-honchos at Viagogo would have been pretty unevolved to not realize what a marvelous opportunity they had here to make even more money. Consequently, they began emailing other secondary ticket brokers, “offering them packages and discounts and thus raising the price on the secondary tickets even higher” (link).

Unfortunately for the monkeys at Viagogo, AEG Live cottoned on to their diabolical plan and has filed an injunction to make sure they sell tickets to fans instead of brokers. Since neither MJ nor AEG Live were going to receive any of the profits from these tertiary sales, you can understand them going ape-shit.

Tickets are being sold to chimpanzees on Viagogo from $250 and on eBay from £170. I think the religious right have won this round.

Throbbing Gristle Tour Update: Give NY and Chicago Fans Another Chance to Enter the Death Factory, Tell LA concertgoers “Sorrrry”

A couple of years ago I was living in London, not too far from where Throbbing Gristle set up the Death Factory and purportedly experimented with super high-pitched, super-irritating noises to keep a wandering group of vagrants from settling down too nearby their factory sweet factory. According to Simon Reynolds' Rip It Up and Start Again: 1978-1984, the itinerant vagabonds were so nonplussed by the sounds and their disturbing side effects that they circled the wagons and skedaddled on out of there, leaving Genesis P-Orridge and friends in loud and disturbing peace. This is kind of what I imagine Throbbing Gristle's upcoming performance at Coachella will be like, except magnified up to 5,000 times, and with Paris Hilton and a bunch of L.A. hipsters instead of no-account drifters.

And now you, too, can have a similar -- if smaller scale experience -- even if spending three scorching days in the desert isn't exactly your cup of tea -- unless you were planning on going to the UCLA show, because that date has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond the control of TG. Oh snap! But the sold-out New York and Chicago tour stops have added second dates, and the group is trying to find a replacement venue for the LA show. Tickets are on sale now

RIP: Alan W. Livingston, ex-Capitol president who signed The Beatles

Alan W. Livingston, the music executive who signed the Beatles during his tenure as president of Capitol Records and created Bozo the Clown, has died. He was 91.

Livingston died Friday of age-related causes in his Beverly Hills home, said his stepdaughter, Jennifer Lerner.

Jeff Buckley’s Grace Released Again, Reminds Everyone of that Awkward Lovemaking Scene in Watchmen

It's been roughly 15 years since Jeff Buckley released his only album and sadly passed away, but there's yet another addition to the posthumous family: Columbia/Legacy will release Grace Around the World on June 2.

Billboard reports that the CD/DVD package, executively produced by his mother, features unreleased live performances from around the world, two unreleased tracks, and a whole lotta liner notes. Splurgers on the deluxe edition will also get a JB documentary entitled Amazing Grace.

I brainstormed a few other ways the word "grace" can be used, in case Columbia wants to keep milking it:
