Surfer Blood play US dates in June, then time-travel to the past and write "Surfin' USA" at a High School dance

By now, you’d think that the members of Surfer Blood would be getting a little tired of having to run around breathlessly convincing everyone that they’re all “beachy” and “summery” and “poppy” and “tan” and “breezy” and “funloving” and whatever the hell else their press releases assure us they are. I mean, what if they have a bad day at some point and don’t feel like flashing fans a “hang loose” sign? What if they don’t like tanning beds? What if they want to feel gloomy for a second or take some downer drugs at an after party or… or… what if they want to sing along to a Radiohead song in the tour van now and then??? My guess is that they get shock-collared by their record label if that happens. Not pretty.

Anyway, let’s hope they’ve got a little more of that fake pep and tan-in-a-can left, because they’ve still got to careen around the US on at least one more surfin’ safari this summer, following the release of this year’s blah-blah-blah’ed-about Astro Coast (TMT Review). They also recently released a limited Record Store day 7-inch that features a live cut of the album track “Take It Easy,” featuring guitarist Marnie Stern (whom I’m pretty sure is married to this guy); while a “Swim” 7-inch remix featuring Allen of Baroness is due later this month. Oh, and there’s also this free demo cover of The Beach Boys’ “Don’t Worry Baby” currently floating around the world wide waves, just in case you STILL weren’t convinced enough that these guys are beachy.

Yeesh… those poor dudes. Anyone else around here hoping for a black metal follow-up?

Yeasayer play more European festivals than you can shake a stick at, plus a few dates elsewhere, too

Where would we be without bands that are constantly touring? Actually, where would they be if they weren’t constantly touring? Yeasayer just finished their ambulations around the US (not exactly at an ambling pace, with dates on one coast to the other over the course of a month), and now the group is taking on Europe, Chicago’s Lollapalooza, and a few nights in Japan and Australia. The colossal tour runs from May through August (and a short lapse in June), with more festivals than most bands can boast for one tour (hey, summertime). On their MySpace, Yeasayer call themselves “Enya with bounce” (new new age?), a juxtaposition as seemingly incongruous — but awesome — as the different bands they’ll be playing with over the coming months. Who else can say they played on bills alongside Missy Elliott, Lady Gaga, Belle and Sebastian, The Pixies, and Rammstein in one season?

Swans announce fall tourdates… wait, you mean that they’re playing more than just one show?

The recently reunited Swans, who already made me blow one load simply by announcing their reunion, have made me blow two more consecutive loads. Even though my new jeans are ruined, I’m pleased as a pumpkin to share the word that the motherfucking Swans have announced fall tourdates!

After announcing themselves as one of the acts of the upcoming Supersonic Festival 2010, Michael Gira and crew have announced nine more tourdates, including a stop at the Montreal Pop Festival. The band lineup for all shows is set to include Gira, two original members, two not-orignal-but-been-around-awhile members, and two new guys who are just happy to be there!

Outside of the fall gigs, the band are also hard at work on their next album, and I am also hard at work trying to not blow my load everytime I get too excited. Unless I’m with my girlfriend, then I can blow my load whenever I want, even if I’m not excited!

Xasthur sells black metal CDs on eBay

Have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, the guy you’re buying stuff from on eBay is somebody famous? I do. I like to think that every time I buy a plastic toy-gun for my gigantic G.I. Joe collection that I could be buying it from Nic Cage, Meryl Streep, former President Jimmy Carter, or any number of celebrities known for their G.I. Joe collections. Sometimes I like to think that all the used books I purchased on eBay came from Huey Lewis’ personal library.

If you ever do have this fantasy, then you can help bring it to total fruition and start buying used black metal CDs from ambient black-metal musician Malefic, of Xasthur fame, through the modern marvel of eBay!

If you take a look at the e-garage sale, you’ll see that ol’ Malefic is going through one of his “phases where [he] become[s] addicted to getting rid of stuff,” and that “now is one of those times.” At the auction, you’ll find signed posters and first-pressings of early albums by artists like Beherit, Darkthrone, Burzum, Paragon Belial, and Graveland. If you don’t take a look, then I guess you’ll never know what you missed.

Terra Firma raises more money for EMI Records’ “How Much Money Can We Lose” contest

EMI Records, the record label with growing notoriety as “that record label that’s totally fucked,” has gained more money, through its owner, Terra Firma Capital Partners, so that its loan agreement with Citigroup stays all legal and healthy.

Can any of you friendly Terra Firma employess provide us with insider-insight on this development? “Uh, yeah, we totally could, but it would just sound panicked and tense so we’ll stick to ‘no comment.’ No comment.”

How much money is EMI asking for this time? According to reports, it’s somewhere’s around 105 million British pounds, which is 156 million in US dollars! That’s a lot of money to save a sinking ship! Too bad these guys weren’t on the Titanic! Sinking ship or not, Terra Firma was able to secure the funds by begging for the (75%) support of its investors, with fanzine The Wall Street Journal reporting that the necessary approval wasn’t achieved until seconds before the May 10 deadline. But they did indeed get it, and now that Terra Firma has decided to throw more money at the problem, it has until this Friday to let Citigroup know that “Baby! We got your money!” so that it doesn’t have to endure the punishment of LOAN DEFAULT.

Now all it has to do is pay a buttload of cash by June 12. After that, the only thing EMI has to worry about are similar “loan tests” in 2011 and 2012! That and making a bunch of records that sell a trillion copies.
