The Mountain Goats announce another Satan-fueled, cloven-hoofed leg of fall tourdates

The Mountain Goats announce another Satan-fueled, cloven-hoofed leg of fall tourdates http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/default/files/news-12-09-mountain-goats.jpg

Dear Satan:

Well, you were right. It’s happening. It’s all really happening! I feel so freaking good right now! Just think: they all laughed at me when I told them that a brainy, insular mash-up of indie folk and death metal could be non-terrible… but who’s laughing now, Satan? Me and you, buddy. That’s who. HAHAHAHAHA! (Ooh, btw, in case you don’t understand certain colloquial grammar and usage conventions up here, those “HA” things are are textual-renditions of my laughter.) Really, though, this is a dream come true for me, and I never could have gotten here without selling my immortal soul to you. What a bargain.

Now that the band you helped me start with your Satan-powers, The Mountain Goats, has a new album called Transcendental Youth coming out next week (October 2, eeeeeeee, excited!!!) on Merge, we’re going on tour of North America to show it off, and we just added a whole ‘nother leg of dates! Can you believe it, dude!? That’s, like, a thing that Prince would say! Like: “Oh, hello, I’m Prince, and I’ve just added a second leg of Prince US tour dates in support of my new Prince album. This is what it’s like when Doves cry. Blah blah blah!” (Oh man, listen to me telling you what Prince sounds like, like you don’t own that guy for all eternity!) Ooh, and did I mention that singer/songwriter Matthew E. White, who’s opening for us on most shows, is letting us borrow his freakin’ horn section to flesh out all the arrangements for our sets? And did you further hear that, before the tour kicks starts, we’ll be performing five songs from Transcendental Youth in Durham, NC with the world-renowned vocal quartet Anonymous 4 (on October 6, FYI; can you come???), in “special vocal arrangements” done by Owen Pallett? Yup, and it’s all thanks to you, Satan. Thank God I met you at that singles-only bowling night thing back in the day. Whoops! I mean, God-who? I mean, all hail Satan’s Godly name! I mean… uh, here, check me out on Pitchfork TV.

Tamaryn drops new album, ushers in fall throughout the land via tour

New Zealand-born, San Francisco-based shoegazer Tamaryn is back with a new LP for Mexican Summer, and with it a tour so lengthy just reading the dates will make your laundry cry. The dusky-voiced Tamaryn will usher in fall with a few European dates before heading back to the States for a month-long cross-country jaunt, plus a couple stops in our neighbor to the North. Talibam! rock/jazz/improv/hip-hop Europe, give away free song from next full-length

We seem to be running out of ways to call Talibam! “eclectic.” The avant-jazz/noise rock/synth-pop/improvisational duo has recently added hip-hop to their resume. They’ve been busy this year toying with the newest Dirty Projectors album as the first entry in their Launchpad series, releasing an album with Sam Kulik (TMT Review), touring all around the world, as well as dropping their newest album, Puff Up the Volume.

Puff Up the Volume sees the self-styled “No School” rappers yet again forging new sonic ground. The NYC duo (Matt Mottel and Kevin Shea a.k.a. MC Moaty Mogulz MC K-Wizzle) is crossing the Atlantic to bring their singular brand of hip-hop, wit, and blaring synthesizers for a string of shows across Europe during the month of October.

In the meantime, you can check out the video for “All Your Money” from Puff Up the Volume while you wait for Talibam! to come to your town:

Lil B announces rare US dates, headlines Cropped Out Festival, fucks yo bitch

While you were reading this sentence, Lil B put out three new mixtapes. Altogether, they feature Lil B rapping over two Clams Casino beats, a sincere cover of Palace Music’s “The Mountain Low,” and a song called “BreakingBASED.” Some of it’s pretty good, some of it’s not. That’s the Lil B way. When you’re living life the #BASED way, though, you don’t have a lot of time to play live dates. It’s just not based! What sort of event could prompt Lil B to leave his Basedquarters and present himself directly to the people?

Enter Louisville’s Cropped Out Festival, a celebration of independent music that frequently dips into the world of outsider art. The festival has booked Lil B to headline its second day, Saturday, September 29. While Lil B is the fest’s first hip-hop act, he honestly fits in pretty well with some of its other big names, R. Stevie Moore and Jandek. Who is Lil B but the Jandek of hip-hop? Or, really, who else could be the Jandek of hip-hop besides Lil B? Other acts set to play Cropped Out include David Liebe Hart, Chain and the Gang, Merchandise, Wooden Wand, and Neil Hamburger. If you want to make sure you see Lil B and Neil Hamburger in the same weekend before you die, then you’d better go buy tickets here or at Louisville record stores Astro Black Records and Please & Thank You.

Meanwhile, Lil B just finished a couple dates in Canada and is starting a short (and #rare) mini-tour of the US today in Madison, WI. Here are the dates:

09.24.12 - Madison, WI - Majestic Theatre
09.25.12 - St. Louis, MO - Firebird
09.28.12 - Minneapolis, MN - Cabooze
09.29.12 - Louisville, KY - Cropped Out 2012
09.30.12 - Boston, MA - Middle East Downstairs

Godspeed You! Black Emperor say “G’Day!” to Australia in 2013. (Hope you Australians enjoyed that headline!)

Ah, Australia.

The land where everything is upside down, the spiders are the size of small cars, people ride kangaroos to work, and toilets flush backwards. Fresh off ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror festival, the ladies and gents of Godspeed You! Black Emperor are getting ready to say “G’day!” to the fine folks of Australia. The Canadian post-rockers are planning their first ever group of shows in the land down under over a series of three dates on the Australian coast early next year. So, if you’re in Aussieland grab tickets before you slip another shrimp on the barbie, because who know when GY!BE will be back on your island!

Alright, I think I burned through all my Australian clichés and stereotypes so here are the tourdates:

02.14.13 - Sydney, Australia - Enmore Theatre

Animal Collective prep new “Applesauce” single on 10-inch viiiieeewhaaa!?! Scott Walker released details on a new album last night??

Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Geologist, and Deakin are back at the top of the heap with a cool new 10-inch single available for preorder featuring Centipede Hz (TMT Review) album track “Applesauce” backed with a brand-new recording of live favorite “Crimson.” It comes out November 13 on Domino and that’s the single artwork above, with all kinds of yummy exotic fruit sliced—

**NO, WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT? I WENT TO SLEEP AT 8PM. NO. NO HE DIDN’T. SCOTT WALKER DOES NOT HAVE A NEW ALBUM ON 4AD AND IT IS NOT COMING OUT BEFORE THE YEAR IS OVER. DO NOT SAY THAT IF YOU DON’T MEAN IT. LOOK ME IN THE EYE. OKAY. YOU’RE NOT MESSING WITH ME. FUCK. WHY WAS I WASTING TIME ON THIS CENTIPEDE HZ LEFTOVER BULLSHIT????????**

Alright folks, change of plans. Swapping out the artwork right now. Now you should see a foreboding painting of the words Bish Bosch on a black background. This looks to be the cover art of Scott Walker’s new album on 4AD, and it too has a release date (December 3/4!) and a preorder link ($13 for the CD, $27 for the double vinyl!). The announcement comes six long years after The Drift gave us the coked-out Elvis nightmares we never knew we needed, and from the lengthy description on the album’s just-released website it’s sounding like Bish Bosch is going to be even more terrifying and grandiose.

For example, about the 20-minute centerpiece track “SDSS14+13B (Zercon, A Flagpole Sitter)”: “The title contains two brown dwarves: one, the coldest sub-stellar body in the universe discovered so far; the other, Zercon, was a real-life Moorish jester at the fifth century court of Attila the Hun.” The song follows someone attempting to reach “a height beyond calculation” before freezing to death in the solar system. Other songs make use of four-foot machetes, chisels, and an enormous kudu shofar. As The Wire’s Rob Young summarizes, “Bish Bosch is big enough to contain heaven and hell.” So yeah, there’s a new black hole of a Scott Walker album, and an Animal Collective 10-inch called “Applesauce.” FYI.

Bish Bosch tracklisting:

01. ‘See You Don’t Bump His Head’
02. Corps De Blah
03. Phrasing
04. SDSS14+13B (Zercon, A Flagpole Sitter)
05. Epizootics
06. Dimple
07. Tar
08. Pilgrim
09. The Day The “Conducator Died”
