Times New Viking have completed work on their follow-up to last year's Rip It Off (TMT Review). Titled Born Again Revisited, the album is slated for release September 22 via Matador. Here's the kicker: according to Matador's blog, the album was mastered on VHS and supposedly features “25% higher fidelity” than that of Rip It Off.
Translation? Times New Viking have sold the fuck out, recording their slickest album yet. In this day and age of digital recording, it's always advisable to decrease fidelity in order to show that you're still thinking of the fans, but all they're thinking about is buying some fancy new shoes. And with the dissemination of portable dictaphones and state-of-the-art space recorders, Times New Viking really have no good excuse for selling out like this. Disappointing. I give the album 3/5
