Times New Viking Take the Matador Company Jet to Europe and Expand Spring Tour

Times New Viking Take the Matador Company Jet to Europe and Expand Spring Tour http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/default/files/news-10-01-times_new_viking_0.jpg

Ahhh, to be a member of Times New Viking. All dating cast members of Gossip Girl, popping champagne with Diddy, and getting animated e-cards from the President. One day you’re a band from Columbus, Ohio, releasing records on Siltbreeze… the next thing you know, you’re opening for Yo La Tengo and singing karaoke in Hollywood with the good-looking Kardashian. And then, whilst the rest of us are sitting in our cubicles waiting for summer to finally FINALLY arrive, you’re jetting off to Europe for an extensive spring tour! Some people have all the luck*.

* At least two of these statements are true. I’ll let you guess which ones.

Bikini Kill Collect Fans’ BK-Related Stories For Online Archive; Submit Now!

In life, there are certain things you’ll always remember: where you were when you heard about Michael Jackson’s death (I was enjoying the free continental breakfast at a hotel in Nebraska) or the collapse of the World Trade Center (Mme. ___’s French class). These moments never fade, even if you can’t recall the color of the curtains or whether or not there was rain that day. But do you remember the first time you listened to Bikini Kill?

Bikini Kill want your stories now! Go to their official online archive to post your riot grrrl memories: reminisce about the shows you saw or wish you’d seen, your old crush on Kathleen Hanna, or the pain of being the only kid in high school to know that Kill Rock Stars wasn’t a West Coast terrorist movement. Did you go to Evergreen with Kathleen? Were you ever in a BK cover band? Did you give The Singles to a friend for Christmas and change her life forever?

Email bkillarchive@gmail.com or just post a comment on the site. If you have any video footage of BK shows, mail it to:

Le Loup Tour The Poop Store

To construct an article
from rhyming particles
a clever gimmick, thought I

A chance to amuse
and share music news,
certainly merits a try

A man with a banjo
took off with his band so
I’ve got to come up with a way

to make it exciting
although it means writing
slant rhymes before the tour dates.

Look Out Spring Breakers! Here Come The Dead Weather!

Most people tend to spend their springtime doing things like gardening, hiding Easter eggs, buying fancy new dresses, polluting Mexico, fucking, and generally just having a bright and shiny time in the bright and shiny weather.

But if you’re like me, then springtime is a cathartic six weeks where the cobwebs and maddening depression of winter slowly disappear from before my red, weepy eyes. Because of my strange behavior in the pastel season, I find it necessary to find music that retains a certain darkness in the face of energy and exhuberance. Well, boy did I cream my pants when The Dead Weather announced their springtime tour! Now I can enjoy my yearly Winter Depressurizing with Jack White’s second best side-project!

Sole Leaves Anticon Records

The new decade has already brought some strange changes to the independent hip-hop scene. First, with Definitive Jux on hiatus and now Tim “Sole” Holland, the founder and mastermind behind Anticon records, is leaving — for good. It’s not exactly like Sole’s abandoning a newborn child here; it’s more analogous to him kicking out an 18 year old from the house who needs to grow on their own.

The California-based Anticon has grown into something much more than an underground and independent hip-hop label; it now houses artists of varying genres. Sole couldn’t have predicted Anticon’s growth into something much more mainstream and strictly business orientated back when it was founded in 1998. While some might argue the label isn’t as focused or as dedicated to the reasons behind its genesis, it wouldn’t have survived at all without the expansion. And so life goes on.

For Sole fans, it’s not over. He’s posted his plans for the future, including his reasons for leaving and his thoughts about the current music industry. He finishes his announcement by stating his future releases will be made available via Soleone.org on his newly created Black Canyon Records.
