Ultra-atmospheric Danish electronic artist Trentemøller is a busy, busy man. He’s working on remixes for UNKLE and Chimes & Belles, REMIXING HIMSELF (soooo meta) for his upcoming single “Shades of Marble,” and doing some fancy production work for fellow Danes Darkness Falls. He’s at work on the next installment of the excellent Late Night Tales compilation series. And this winter/spring he’s DJing his way through Europe and South America in support of his most recent album on In My Room, Into the Great Wide Yonder. He’s also performing at Coachella and a multitude of international festivals, but perhaps the most exciting Trentemøller news is his upcoming series of live performance dates.

Trentemøller is bringing guitarist/bassist Mikael Simpson, guitarist Lisbet Fritze, drummer/fashion man Henrik Vibskov, and vocalists Josephine Philip and Marie Fisker along to re-create the amazingness of Into the Great Wide Yonder live. Costumes, visuals, and dance performances are also promised as part of the Trentemøller live experience. The magic premieres at Miami’s Ultra Festival and continues on to Coachella before journeying back to the Old World.

Warner Music Group loses $18 million over three months

In today’s “Which industry/country’s economy/company is going down the toilet?” column, I bring you news of Warner Music Group. It’s no shock that the recorded music industry isn’t doing too hot, but perhaps a few shareholders’ hands still reached to cover their genteel mouths and said “Dear me!” (shareholders are all clean-livin’, constantly fainting late-19th-century southern belles) when Warner announced two days ago that, despite high-profile releases from Kid Rock, Josh Groban, and Michael Bublé, the company lost $18 million over the last three months of 2010.

The loss comes as a result of WMG’s declining stock value. Values fell $0.12 during the period, and the company’s revenue fell 14% from what it had been the year before. It’s a complicated mix over there at Warner; although many of the company’s tribulations can be attributed to the overall decline of the music industry, WMG’s special trials also arise from the fact that it is the only major music group that’s publicly traded and accountable to shareholders. In an effort to to prevent further losses, WMG hired Goldman Sachs last month to find potential buyers for either Warner/Chappell, its publishing arm, or for the entire company.

Alexander Tucker (of Imbogodom) to release Dorwytch on Thrill Jockey

Is the daily grind keeping you down? Is this incessant chilly weather bumming you out? Ever feel the need to just kick back and rest your feet by a toasty fireplace with a stiff glass of scotch in hand? Well, go ahead and make that happen, but before you do I’d suggest accompanying the atmosphere with the warm, ghost-like finger pickings of Alexander Tucker. Come April, you’ll have a chance to do all this with a brand new Alexander Tucker LP straight from the fine curators of all things musically good, Thrill Jockey.

Dorwytch is Tucker’s first full-length since 2008’s Portal and his first for the venerable Chicago label, though Thrill Jockey did release the acclaimed The Metallic Year (TMT Review) last year, the debut album by Imbogodom, Tucker’s collaborative project with Daniel Beban. Expect a few divisive sounds from this one; according to the label, this album will include full instrumentation, plus drums and guest multi-instrumentalists. It’ll sorta be like when Iron and Wine adopted a fuller sound, except not shitty.

Vetiver announce tour, give vague heads-up on new album

In March, the ice thaws, the sun shines, and it’s time to join the migration of hundreds of bands as they journey from one side of the country to the other. Vetiver, hailing from Sub Pop’s folk quadrant, are joining the masses in a tour across the United States, and why shouldn’t they? While there is no new material officially released since 2009’s Sub Pop debut, Tight Knit (TMT Review), according to their blog, Vetiver have kept busy in the studio and plan to have an album ready for this summer (via Sub Pop and Bella Union) — just in time for ho-downs, pig pickin’s, and whatever else bluegrass/folk-inclined people like to do.

Cursive are getting the fuck out of the arctic Midwest for a few weeks… I mean, “touring later this month”

1. Yes, Cursive are touring the southern US for a few weeks starting the end of this month.

2. No, you haven’t missed something. They don’t have a record out or anything (not since 2009’s Mama, I’m Swollen). I’m pretty sure they just realized how balls-cold and snow-tastic it is up here in the Midwest right about now (Brrrrr) and decided to get the heck out of Dodge. Jerks.

3. Yes, they’re supporting the recently exhumed Bright Eyes for five of those dates in sunny, sunny Florida. And by “supporting,” I mean chillin’-on-the-beach-with. It’s gonna get all hypnagogic, I’m sure. Saddle Creek-style. Weed.

4. NO, they are not scheduled to play Domestica, so you can close this tab if you want to.

Gruff Rhys likes hotels, and on May 3, you can buy Hotel Shampoo and find out why

You always knew that release dates were unreliable, but here’s a nice example to convince anyone who naively doubted that the industry would really waffle on things like that. Up until a couple months ago, the word on the web was that Gruff Rhys’ new solo album, Hotel Shampoo, would be out in time for Valentine’s Day. Hopefully Gruff didn’t fit into your VD plans, because the most recently announced date isn’t until May 3 (c/o Wichita Recordings).

Hotel Shampoo is the third solo album from Super Furry Animals’ frontman, and the theme literally comes from shampoo; more specifically, Rhys’ collection of complimentary hotel products. Rather than serving as commentary on a sort of disposable consumer society always on the go, Rhys warmly reflects on this collection: “Having never kept a journal these items have become like diary entries, triggering memories of all those buildings and random people I’ve met and inspiring songs on the album.” Aw.

For more information, go here to watch an explanatory video, in which Gruff Rhys personally displays his mini shampoos, hotel slippers, soaps, and leftover keys. The video is footage not of Gruff’s home but an art installation he set up in Cardiff, at the Chapter Arts Center (where, following the installation, he spent the night). While you’re at it, check out the new video for “Sensations in the Dark”, the newest single (following “Shark Ridden Waters”, out since October).

Rather than let the illustrious collection stagnate, Gruff is already squirreling away more bottles and tubes as he tours Europe and Japan in support of Hotel Shampoo. Rest easy, Americans: Stateside dates are on the way.
