Did you know that Merrill Garbus, the lovable tUnE-yArDs lady who manages to keep all of her looping pedals in perfect working order but somehow has a bUsTeD cApS-lOcK kEy, just celebrated her birthday? Go write an impersonal ironic emoji-laden message on her Facebook wall before it’s too late! My advice? Make liberal use of the “:putnam:” guy if you want it to be extra funny. Oh, and you know what, if you actually want to make it a little more personal, consider mentioning her rEcEnTlY aNnOuNcEd NeW aLbUm!! It’s called Nikki Nack.
Nikki Nack is Garbus’ first full-length since 2011’s marvel of spacebar technology w h o k i l l (T M T R e v i e w), and it’s out May 6 in the United States. Garbus says to listeners, “Thanks for all your support and patience while we cooked this chicken!” That’s either a joke, or in the short break she took between albums, she got totally confused about what albums are and how they’re different from chickens. Jokes: I love to make them, but I’m terrible at interpreting them when others make them. Anyhow, Garbus has put together what she’s calling a “Megamix” of the album, which you can hear in the YouTube embed below. She’s also going on an international and festival-heavy tour starting in; scope those dates below and see if any of them are near your house! Really, the only thing left for us to do is to wait for Chuck Klosterman to follow up his oH sO vErY InSiGhTfUl and t o t a l l y c o h e r e n t think-piece on w h o k i l l with something similar for Nikki Nack.
