Ever since TV on the Radio formed back in the mid-90s in the dreary, intellectual town of Seattle, Washington, their singular goal has been to one day play a set of songs on the most intellectual radio show in town. Of course, I’m speaking of the Dr. Frasier Crane show on KACL, Seattle. Unfortunately, KACL turned out to be a talk-radio station that didn’t feature music. Also, Fraiser Crane turned out to not be a real person (which, as you can imagine, was pretty demoralizing).
After shaking off these embarrassments, the bookish band decided to seek out the second-best intellectual American radio show, this time setting their sights on NPR’s The World Cafe Live. Now, after years of trying to write intelligent-enough songs to catch the ear of its ruthlessly critical host, David Dye, the boys in TVOTR were finally granted access to The Village Studios down in Santa Monica, where they recorded five live songs for a new EP entitled World Cafe Live. The EP is being released on September 6, and you can listen to it exclusively on Rdio right now. What a success story!
Oh, also, there’s a new video for the Nine Types of Light track “Second Song” and some tourdates coming up this fall, blah blah blah. Those didn’t really fit into my (already pretty lazy) narrative, so they’re tacked on here. WELCOME TO TINY MIX TAPES, SUCKERS!
