Uncle Tupelo's No Depression to receive tribute album, because a magazine named in tribute just wasn't enough, now was it?

“I crave tribute,” Jeff Tweedy might’ve once said. See also: Jay Farrar, Mike Heidorn, and everybody else who was ever in Uncle Tupelo. Not only do they hold an influential place in the world of alt-country, not only was a long-running publication on alt-country named after their debut album, but now that debut album is getting its own tribute record. On June 29, Reimagine Music will put out The Brighter Side: A 25th Anniversary Tribute To Uncle Tupelo’s No Depression, which is exactly what it sounds like.

No Depression has 13 tracks. And with that, The Brighter Side: A 25th Anniversary Tribute To Uncle Tupelo’s No Depression has 13 bands covering those 13 tracks. It is these who stop to pay tribute: Smoking Popes, Elliott Brood, Cheap Girls, The Last Bison, Bodies of Water, Big Sky Blue, Wooden Sky, Peculiar Pretzelmen, Crow Moses, Leeroy Stagger, David Stuart, Mikaela Davis, and Beta Radio. With their energies sent out in tribute, Jeff Tweedy can live another year.
