UNKLE Slates New Album for May Release; Meanwhile, My Uncle Dale Huffs Paint in His Garage and Thinks About 'Nam

If you’ve done the right thing and hung around with good ol’ UNKLE for their last few records, you know they’re not the type of band you’d label with that dreaded, sort-of-all-encomposing genre tag electronica. No self-respecting synthesizer jockey wants to be slapped with that sassafras, America. Maybe that geeky cousin of yours who scores his own anime soundtracks, but not your friends in UNKLE. With past collaborators ranging from Thom Yorke to Kool G Rap, James Lavelle and company are a puzzling bundle of lads who have never proven easy to pigeonhole.

So it’s with a hearty “Hey cool alright!” that I report that UNKLE will release its fourth LP Where Did the Night Fall on May 11. Out on the group’s own Surrender All label, UNKLE’s latest effort “has influences from psychedelic rock to afrobeat” and features guest vocals from Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) and Sleepy Sun, among others. Mosey on over to the Chocolate Grinder to hear the track’s first single, “Natural Selection.” I bet it’ll treat you real nice!
