What can you say about a band like Unknown Mortal Orchestra? …No, I mean, really. Like, what the fuck? “Unknown mortals”? How the hell am I supposed to sell that!?
I mean, so what if that band just signed with Jagjaguar and is preparing a new full-length album for 2013? And so what if they have a bunch of North American dates coming up in the meantime, including an East Coast jaunt with Grizzly Bear? And so what if they’re celebrating the new album and tour by releasing the album’s first taste — a song called “Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)” and B-side “Waves of Confidence” — as a limited-edition, tour-only 7-inch?? I mean, if I’m going to see an orchestra play (which, I’ll tell you right now, I’m not doing, because that shit sounds B-O-R-I-N-G!), then there had better be a bunch of famous-ass motherfuckers playing in it. Rich, good looking, charismatic, captivating motherfuckers, too; not just, like, politicians or something. And actually, the instruments they’re playing had better be OTHER famous-ass motherfuckers too! Ooh, ooh, and they should be immortal for real! I want to see George Clooney playing the spine of Zombie Thomas Jefferson like a xylophone. Yeah. That’s what I want. Don’t question it.
