Wal-Mart, Now with Live Nation Ticketing Outlets!

Wal-Mart, Now with Live Nation Ticketing Outlets! http://www.tinymixtapes.com/sites/default/files/news-10-02-wal-mart.jpg

Personally, I blame online ticketing for missing out on Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour. I despise waiting for the site to load, nervously refreshing the page after I’ve already entered my credit card information, and panicking as the phone rings right when the site says I have five minutes to finalize my order.

A new partnership between TMT favorites Live Nation Entertainment and Wal-Mart gives you another option. Live Nation executive chairman Irving Azoff announced at the recent NBA Technology Summit in Dallas that ticketing outlets will open in select Wal-Mart stores across the US (about 500, in major cities). Rather than go online, shoppers will be able to head to Wal-Mart’s entertainment section for tickets to local concerts, sporting events, and other Ticketmaster offerings.

$9.99 DVDs and Nickelback tickets in one shopping trip? Given the similar deal between Live Nation and Blockbuster, settled late last year, this might not seem that special. But does Blockbuster have in-store fast food?

A Place to Bury Strangers Hit the Road with The Big Pink, Damage the Road’s Eardrums

Sightings to Give Birth to New LP City of Straw on Brah in April

After nearly a decade of developing their wallow-in-the-mud fallout shelter industrial rock assault, where does a band like Sightings belong if not on their mainstay Load? Well, on Brah apparently — the label helmed by fellow pop/rock-structure boundary-pushers Oneida and subsidiary of indie big boys Jagjaguwar. After taking a noticeable (for some) break from twisting musical composition in a way that threatens music as we know it, Sightings took residency at Brooklyn’s The Ocropolis with Ex-Models/Oneida member Shahin Motia twisting the knobs. What resulted from this is the band’s seventh full-length, City of Straw.

The band claims that this is its most forward, coherent, and frankly best statement to date. Quite a statement, considering the leap in structural progression and sheer awesomeness of 2007’s Through the Panama.

City of Straw comes out on April 12, and it will rock. Because Sightings say so.

By now, you’ve most likely seen MGMT’s cover art for their new album, Congratulations (due April 13 from Columbia) and decided whether or not you think they’re completely full of shit or just halfway full of shit. Well, once you’ve made up your mind, you can pre-order the album right here on either CD or LP, both of which include a scratch-off front cover with a custom metal coin.

Be sure to also check out MGMT on the festival circuit this summer. Maybe you can trade your custom coin for a sweet decoder ring!

Dinosaur Jr. Announces Australian Tour, Super Duper Secret Free Show Next Tuesday in LA

When we last reported on Dinosaur Jr., they had announced shows with TMT favorite Kurt Vile. Sorry, we don’t have any additional Dino/Vile shows for you, but Dinosaur Jr. did just announce an Australian tour for March, which has them playing shows surrounding festivals like Golden Plains and Lost Weekend, and finally ending up at the Mosaic Music Festival in Singapore.

Now, you could spend some money to trek your ass to Australia or Singapore, but the cheaper route would see you making your way to The Troubadour in L.A. next Tuesday (2/23) for a special-edition, super-sized, completely free Dinosaur Jr. show. First come, first serve. Doors at 8 PM. Fun all night, etc.

Since I’m rich, I’ll probably just travel to Singapore. Anyone want to come?

03.04.10 - Melbourne, AUS - Corner Hotel
03.05.10 - Melbourne, AUS - Corner Hotel
