Washed Out returns with a new label (Sub Pop), new record (Within and Without), and new look (beachier)

His Royal Highness the Duke of Chillwavetonia Ernest Greene has plans to release more nostalgia-tinged, end-of-summer beach jams under his moniker Washed Out this summer. Sub Pop has announced that they’ll be co-releasing Washed Out’s debut full-length, Within and Without, with Weird World, a new Domino-connected, London-based partner label that’s putting out music by the likes of Smith Westerns.

The new album is being touted as a progression from Greene’s ultra-successful Life of Leisure EP, which was met with general fanfare upon release back in 2009. Begone, nostalgia! Fare thee well, lingering feelings! Within is all about THE NOW! At least, that’s what the press release says, and with production by superstar studio guy Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Gnarls Barkley), it makes sense. Greene’s new band also contributes to the happenin’ feeling of the new record, and they’ll be showcasing said feeling at select European dates this summer. Within is due for a July 12 release in the US, July 11 in the UK.
