Jedi Mind Tricks tour is the one you’ve been looking for
By Aaron Norman on 03-16-2010
The independent hip-hop group Jedi Mind Tricks — featuring Vinnie Paz (formerly known as Ikon the Verbal Hologram), Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind, and Jus Allah — will be touring North America starting next Wednesday, March 24. Although most popular for their first two albums, The Psycho-Social… and Violent by Design, JMT have continued releasing stellar music throughout the past decade. Actually, I can’t comment on their later releases as I haven’t been following them, but they definitely believe in their music, and that’s what counts, right?

Nada Surf announce covers record If I Had a Hi-Fi, tour; Milwaukee band IfIHadAHiFi very pleased
By A Chugg on 03-16-2010
You have to wonder what is happening to a band when they decide to do an album of covers. It’s been done both successfully (Dirty Projectors “covering” Black Flag) and awkwardly (Rob Halford of Judas Priest covering traditional Christmas hymns), but either way, there is something earnest about cover albums, and in this great country of America, you’re allowed to do anything you want when you turn 18 — or in this case, when your band turns 18.
The band is Nada Surf, and the album is called If I Had a Hi-Fi. Why is it called that? Because it’s a palindrome! And maybe, according to the Milwaukee noise-rock band IfIHadAHiFi, in honor of Milwaukee noise-rock band IfIHadAHiFi! (In reciprocation, IfIHadAHiFi have decided to name their forthcoming EP Nada Surf, citing Negativland and their U2 record as influence.)
No tracklist yet, but Nada Surf will cover The Soft Pack (formerly The Muslims), The Moody Blues, Kate Bush, Arthur Russell, and other artists that a lot of people really, really, really like! The record will only be available at shows, so go see ‘em.

Die Antwoord sign to Interscope, Sacha Baron Cohen humor is reaffirmed as “still funny”
By Nobodaddy on 03-16-2010
The Music Industry (yes, THIS Music Industry) has done it again! Interscope has officially signed Die Antwoord (they’re that fake South African hip-hop crew that got internet-famous last month for still liking Ali G… and also for doing nothing) to an honest to goodness major label contract. And while it’s no secret that there are literally trillions to be made off of these guys who aren’t real musicians and are basically a little less funny than Andy Samberg, there’s no need to thank The Music Industry. Good, quality music that respects the intelligence of its intended audience is its own reward.
Die Antwoord are working on a debut album as we speak. They are also scripting a movie. They’ve also got Disctrict 9’s Neill Blomkamp hard at work directing their next video. Again, money is no object when it comes to the production of good, quality music that respects the intelligence of its intended audience. There’s no word yet on when any of these projects will see release, but it’s pretty safe to say that, now that these longterm career-minded megastars are on board, the Music Industry’s financial troubles are over.
In unrelated news, here’s some footage of the Hindenberg blimp disaster.
